SACRAMENTO, CA – In today’s “Are You Kidding Me?” segment, Assemblyman Jones (R-Santee) questions why Democrats in the Legislature killed a bill to stop abuses in California’s food stamp program, a taxpayer-funded benefit. Investigators have found 2600 examples abusing their benefits – some sold their EBT cards for cash. Assembly Bill 2354 authored by Assembly Republican Leader Connie Conway (R-Tulare) would have required EBT cards to have a photo ID, which would ensure that the card is being used by the right person. Assemblyman Jones said, “You’d think it would be in the taxpayer’s best interest to protect the [food stamp] program, which would help families that need assistance the most. I think your money is worth protecting – it’s about time we work to get rid of government waste.”
