In the previous edition of the already legendary Albondigas San Diego Meatball Poll (and who are we to argue with this assertion), Councilmember Carl DeMaio, Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, and Congressman Bob Filner were the top three picks in February for the San Diego Mayor’s race.
Back when this poll took place, Charlie Sheen was still on “Two and a Half Men” and Arnold and Maria were still a happy couple. Suffice it to say a few things have changed since then. District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis declared her candidacy. Filner did, and then he didn’t. Fletcher and Councilmember Kevin Faulconer are still playing the waiting game. DeMaio was first out of the gate. And let’s not forget Loch David Crane.
In the May update of our mayoral poll, different names sit at the top of the leaderboard.

Disclaimer: The Meatball Poll is an utterly unscientific poll of poliwonks and insiders whose opinions appear closer in the rear view mirror than they really are.
In addition, the poll asked who will be the Republican nominee for President. WAY out in front was Mitt Romney with 47.4% of the vote, followed by Mitch Daniels at 13.2%, and Mike Huckabee, Newt Gingrich, Donald Trump, Rick Santorum and Tim Pawlenty in single digits.
Observations welcome, Rostrafarians…
