Story behind the story…. our neighbor state of Arizona had a primary election this week, and a state senate contest says a lot about the GOP’s future, there and here.

Businesswoman Lori Klein primaried an appointed GOP state senator in an Arizona district covering north Phoenix and her home town of Anthem. Klein was a leader of Prop. 207, limiting the use of eminent
domain, and described herself as 100% pro Life, pro 2nd Amendment and a foe of new taxes.

Sen. Russell Pearce, author of Arizona’s famous immigration law, endosed Klein as did Sheriff Joe Arpaio. [You can hear Joe Arpaio’s phone message for Klein in the accompanying audio file]. The incumbent was backed by Gov. Jan Brewer and the Arizona Republic newspaper.

It was of several races in which Brewer and Pearce played poker for the future… who will run the state senate next year, and perhaps who will be the next Governor in 2014.

Lori Klein scored a 10-strike when she chose Jim Lacy’s ‘Landslide Communications’ to handle voter contact. Jim Lacy is well known in San Diego as a past State and National Chairman of Young Americans for Freedom.

Klein’s conservative message resonated on Tuesday, as she easily defeated the incumbent by a stunning margin of 9,645 (57%) to 7,317 (43%).

Congratulations to future Senator Klein, Sheriff Joe Arpaio and to Jim Lacy for putting on a Clinic of effective and principled election persuasion in Senate district 6.
