There’s Good News Today — District B voters will have a Top Tier alternative on their June ballot.  Scott Hasson, President of the Tierrasanta Community Council,  filed at the Registrar of Voters office,  and has already qualified for the ballot.  Hasson is a commercial pilot  and businessman.   Thanks to Rostrafarians who helped make this news possible, responding to Rostra’s  March 8th alert.  This sets up a classic race with  Bernard Rhinerson (D). The top 2 vote getters in June will proceed to a November citywide runoff.

Remember, and this is directed to our friends in the MSM, you read this story  First at SD Rostra, where we are Live, Local and Late Breaking!   We routinely acknowledge MSM reporting here, and hope that courtesy will be returned.

……… WHAT IS THE  S.D.  COMMUNITY COLLEGE BOARD?

It’s a 5-member body which operates  the much-beloved San Diego City College  (home of the Mighty Knights) in downtown San Diego,   Mesa College  (the Olympians)  in Kearny Mesa,  and  Miramar College  (which has trained thousands of public safety personnel).

…………. WHY IS THIS AN   ’OPEN SEAT’  ?

Incumbent Democrat William Schwandt, age 80,  did not file candidacy papers  to run again per SD Registrar of Voters’ reports.  Meanwhile   Bernard Rhinerson  (D)  has filed  the papers to seek the job.  Tom Blair of the U-T reports that   Schwandt  (D)  has  endorsed Rhinerson (D).        Mr. Rhinerson is a Chief of Staff and an administrator at the San Diego Unified school district, per his official filings.  He was an aide to Democratic San Diego  City Councilman  Mike Gotch a generation ago.

……….. A  REPUBLICAN  HELD  THIS  SEAT  BEFORE

Republican Ken Moser held the District B seat on the College Board prior to Schwandt, so this is a winnable seat.    There are  3,000 more Republicans than Democrats in SD’s District B.     There is no reason why Scott Hasson can’t repeat Ken Moser’s memorable feat.

  1. As a fellow Council President in neighboring Clairemont, I cannot emphasize enough my admiration for Scott Hasson.

I worked with Hasson during some community redistricting study sessions last summer, and his leadership during that effort led towards the shape of the new council district 7 boundaries, which will soon have the opportunity to elect another reformer — Scott Sherman — to the city council.

Hasson’s dedication to his community, his family, and friends is unparalleled and I strongly support his candidacy for this seat.

Thank you Scott for stepping up!
