The June 2012 prinary election is still 17 months away,  but the District 3 race for County Supervisor continues to make news!  Last week incumbent Pam Slater-Price filed preliminary papers to seek a 6th term.  This week,  rival Steve Danon is endorsed by new Encinitas Mayor (but longtime councilman) James Bond.  In a press release today, Bond explained,  ” It is time for new ideas at the County Board of Supervisors and it will be refreshing to have a County Supervisor in the Third District that will work in a partnership with the City of Encinitas to put our neighborhoods first.”

The Danon for Supervisor camp revealed the Bond  endorsement today.

Mayor Bond also cited fire-fighting as a key topic,  “Encinitas has taken a leadership role in drawing the blueprint for firefighting consolidation and Steve wants to take our plan and apply it county-wide to build a Regional Firefighting Authority.”

Encinitas is one of the major cities within District 3 (along with Escondido, Solana Beach and part of San Diego City).   Ms. Slater-Price herself served on the Encintas council before winning the Supervisor’s race in 1992.

Both Steve Danon and Supervisor Slater-Price are Republicans.  Danon is chief of staff for Congressman Brian Bilbray (R).   Stay tuned to SD Rostra for more coverage of what is sure to be a fascinating contest in the next 17 months !

  1. The 9,744 Encinitas voters who re-elected Mr. Bond to their city council in 2008 must be pretty interested in his opinion.

  2. And do you really think those same voters will vote for Steve Danon based on Bond’s endorsement as opposed to Encinitas’s own Pam Slater-Price?

  3. We report political news here. It’s one of the things we do. Whether you like the news is not our care.

Now, whether the voters will follow Bond’s lead against one of their own is a legitimate question and cause for discussion, just as it is that one of Encinitas’ own would endorse against another of its own. Hmmm, which causes more of a discussion?

For the record, Supervisor Slater-Price has posting rights on this blog as well.

  4. Your initial comment stated the Mayor James Bond endorsement was not news-worthy. Thor rightly rebutted that sentiment. When the Mayor of a major city in a Supervisor district endorses the challenger, that will always be significant news.

Ditto when Supervisor Slater-Price filed to seek a new term last week. That was news also, and we prominently reported it.

  5. Hostile? THAT was hostile? LOL! Uhhh, you asked a couple of questions which seemed to call into question the relevancy of Bond, and we responded to it, while noting that his endorsement may be newsworthy for more than one reason. Nothing hostile included or meant. Some might think your dismissal of Bond is hostile towards him, but we would say that it’s all fair debate. But, perhaps the key here is that if one is willing to dish it out, they should be open to plate-like responses. No hostility there, just discussion, and certainly no vitriol.

  6. Never mentioned anything about whether story was newsworthy or not. Just expressing the opinion that Jim Bond is pretty irrelevant outside the chambers of city hall.

And, Thor’s asst, why do you need to respond to anything? I thought your job was to make sure the website doesn’t crash and to delete libelous/crude/racist comments. Do Jim and the other bloggers need your protection?

And since when is Encinitas a “major city”?

  7. Encinitas is one of the 3 largest cities in the 3rd District.
It launched the elective career of Pam Slater-Price, and
came within a few hundred votes of putting James Bond
into the State Assembly in 2000 (a close loss to now-
Senator Mark Wyland). Sounds pretty major to me!

Councilman Bond has won five (5) elections to the
city council over the years, a sure sign that his value
and service are recognized beyond the limits of City
    Hall.

Thor’s Assistant is our ‘Minister without Portfolio” and
provides a protecting shield (and hammer) over all the
good Rostrafarian boys and girls. We happily accept
    that able assistance. 🙂

  8. I respond as I please. My “job” from now on is to ensure I always do so with you. LOL!

  9. OK maybe Bond counts for something maybe not.

What does count is Pam’s voting record.

She voted for massive pension increases, backdated.

She voted to increase her own salary.

She voted to spend literally millions over the years on her own pet art projects.

The Supervisors have been there waaaaaaay too long. Time for Pam to find something else to do with her time.
