The June 2012 prinary election is still 17 months away, but the District 3 race for County Supervisor continues to make news! Last week incumbent Pam Slater-Price filed preliminary papers to seek a 6th term. This week, rival Steve Danon is endorsed by new Encinitas Mayor (but longtime councilman) James Bond. In a press release today, Bond explained, ” It is time for new ideas at the County Board of Supervisors and it will be refreshing to have a County Supervisor in the Third District that will work in a partnership with the City of Encinitas to put our neighborhoods first.”
The Danon for Supervisor camp revealed the Bond endorsement today.
Mayor Bond also cited fire-fighting as a key topic, “Encinitas has taken a leadership role in drawing the blueprint for firefighting consolidation and Steve wants to take our plan and apply it county-wide to build a Regional Firefighting Authority.”
Encinitas is one of the major cities within District 3 (along with Escondido, Solana Beach and part of San Diego City). Ms. Slater-Price herself served on the Encintas council before winning the Supervisor’s race in 1992.
Both Steve Danon and Supervisor Slater-Price are Republicans. Danon is chief of staff for Congressman Brian Bilbray (R). Stay tuned to SD Rostra for more coverage of what is sure to be a fascinating contest in the next 17 months !
