Prominent California leaders today responded to the announcement that the Governor and members of the Assembly have reached an agreement on the Governor’s jobs plan. The measure will close a tax loophole on out-of-state corporations while providing tax relief to small business and working families.
“This is a tax cut for small businesses that is desperately needed during these tough economic times to ensure that they can keep their doors open and continue to operate their communities. This proposal creates a fair, level playing field for small business and creates a tax parity in California that has proven successful in other states such as Texas and New Jersey.”
-John Kabateck, National Federation of Independent Businesses, California, Executive Director
“This agreement takes an important step toward making our state a more competitive state to invest and innovate. It restores important incentives that will help grow California businesses and drive job creation. We applaud Governor Brown and Assemblyman Fletcher for their hard work and we call on the Legislature to pass this measure.”
-Bill Bold, Senior Vice President, Government Affairs, Qualcomm
“It’s encouraging to see a bipartisan compromise that encourages job growth in California and puts us on a level playing field with other forward-thinking states.”
-Carl Hull, President and CEO, Gen-Probe
“California Health Institute represents the biomedical industry in the state and we support the California Jobs First Plan, which includes single sales factor corporate tax along with incentives to support innovation and job creation. Many of the companies in our coalition are small businesses fighting for survival. With the economic reality California is facing, we need high-quality jobs that build on California’s global leadership in life science. We applaud Assemblyman Fletcher for his effort.”
-David L. Gollaher, Ph.D., President and CEO, California Health Care Institute
“Today’s proposal — embraced by Governor Jerry Brown — is a great first step toward making California a more competitive place to create jobs. It will permanently lower the business tax and income tax on small businesses, provide tax relief for working families and cut the sales tax on manufacturing equipment purchases. I wholeheartedly support it and call on all parties to pass it without delay to put California on a path towards economic recovery.”
-Ernie Dronenburg, Assessor, San Diego County and former BOE member
“The compromise reached by Assemblyman Fletcher and Governor Brown will lower my taxes and provide much-needed tax relief. This is a commonsense measure. It is imperative that we help California companies create jobs and put people back to work. I applaud Assemblyman Fletcher for reaching across the aisle and lowering my taxes.”
