In the world according to House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), the $4 billion in federal spending cuts that accompanied the two-week Continuing Resolution (CR) allowing the government to stay in business was a good start.

In fact his office released the following statement; “Yesterday, the House passed a temporary budget stopgap that cuts $4 billion in spending and keeps the government running for two weeks. With the March 4th budget deadline looming, we passed these meaningful cuts because Washington’s ongoing spending binge is destroying jobs, and we refuse to pile on trillions more in debt on the backs of our kids and grandkids.”

CraigsList and Infighting and Failed Votes, Oh My

Just a little over a month into Republican control of the U.S. House of Representatives and the wheels are already wobbling.

This week marked some public failures on the part of the conservatives to stay united and focused on their jobs.

Somehow, even noncontroversial floor votes could not manage to cross the vote threshold, leading some to speculate about the cohesive nature of the party behind closed doors.

If the Republicans wish to remain a strong opponent to Democrats in 2012, they’re gonna have to try harder than that and stay away from CraigsList.

The GOP doesn’t get the media and really, the feeling seems mutual. So listen up, there’s an elephant in the room and he doesn’t know how to look good on TV.

During the State of the Union Address last night, I watched the speeches as if I were critiquing and assessing candidates of my own. Overall, the Democrats and Republicans are not just divided by political differences, but also in appearances.

Regardless of whether the Conservative powers that be in D.C. care to admit it – appearances matter.
