What If You Said, “Screw You. I Quit” ?

What happens when Congress passes a debt limit increase?  A group of 535 men and women, most of whom will be dead in 30 years, encumber you to a 30-year mortgage, collateralized by your future tax obligations.  Today, that debt is approaching $20 trillion.  That’s about $63,000 per person in the United States, enough for a family of four to purchase a pretty nice, golf course home with a pool in Borrego Springs.

That’s real wealth being taken from you.  That’s not the cost of your federal government, it’s the cost which exceeds the existing amount of taxation you accept today.  Think about this– DC’s profligate spending is costing your family a house you could own, free and clear.

What if you said, “Screw you.  I quit!”  ?

What if you said, every time Congress wanted to send money to a foreign government which hates you, pay landowners to not farm, intervene in another foreign, civil war, or relieve parents from the obligation of feeding their children…

…”Y’all don’t know WHAT the heck you’re doing.  Screw you.  I quit” ?

Here’s what would happen:  the revenue service would send you a few nice letters for about a year.    After a year, the letters would have a more confrontational and threatening tone to them.  After a few years, a direct threat to seize your income and assets would be made, followed by legal action which granted them the right to take your property…by force if you resisted.  The bank, with whom you’ve had a long-term, voluntary relationship, the county assessor, with whom you play golf a few times a year, and the deputy sheriff, with whom you surf each March to October, would all be compelled to execute the order to take your property and…

…eventually shoot you if you tried to resist.

Do you know how they get away with this?  By growing government.  A growing government has a vested interest in keeping free Americans at each others’ throats.  If you said “Screw You.  I Quit”, Republicans would call you unpatriotic, for refusing to give up your Borrego House, so that they could send money to foreign governments, and fight wars for them.  Democrats would call you unpatriotic for starving school children and wrecking family farms.  A growing government HAS to turn free Americans against one another to get away with this swindle.

Think about this the next time you’re arguing with a Democrat or Republican about the debt limit, spending, the size and role of the federal government, foreign military engagements, etc.  In a kleptocracy, citizens must gore all oxen but their own in the political process.  When they do so at the ballot box, a growing government rewards them with scraps.

Congress is costing you a darned nice house with its excess spending.  Think of all the good YOU could do with that money based upon the values which YOU hold dear,   Now, think about how the federal government has to collect that money it wastes from you.  How is THAT peaceful?

  1. It would be nice if conservatives had been so keen on the debt when Republicans had the house, senate, and the presidency.

  2. Wouldn’t it be nice if all of the liberal Dems who want to spend your money would write a check to the IRS? Whenever a liberal starts talking about the poor and how they don’t think we’re taxed enough, I say ‘write a check to the IRS, no one is stopping you’. That usually shuts them up.

  3. I know it’s tiresome to bring up, but the REAL national debt — included the unfunded federal liabilities — is somewhere north of $70 TRILLION. Some economists estimate it’s over $200 TRILLION.

I guess we do it “for the children.” And for THEIR children. And THEIRS. None of whom get to vote on the matter.

  4. I might add that I switched from Libertarian to Republican in part to end this bipartisan support for increasing the national debt. Doubtless you’ve all been awed by the stunning success I’ve had these last three years.

  5. “Doubtless you’ve all been awed by the stunning success I’ve had these last three years.”

You’ve had some success, RR. Grass roots people are actually getting this now and a large part of that is your tireless advocacy. More importantly, you and Fred serve as intellectual godfathers to the local freedom movement.

I really want to start explaining this in terms people understand now (they took your Borrego house from you). I think when we illustrate just how reckless these people are, in tangible terms, we can reverse the course

  6. “Whenever a liberal starts talking about the poor and how they don’t think we’re taxed enough, I say ‘write a check to the IRS, no one is stopping you’.”

Our party is to blame as well. Last decade, Republicans grew government faster than anyone since FDR. Even Jimmy Carter was a better steward of our spending

  7. “Even Jimmy Carter was a better steward of our spending”

    makes one cry.

Taxation is against our will. in a modern democracy we should at least get a decent return on investment from our money. Debt is not it.

  8. “Our party is to blame as well. Last decade, Republicans grew government faster than anyone since FDR. Even Jimmy Carter was a better steward of our spending”

Unfortunately the congress was run by Democrats who spent wildly when there were Rep presidents, who unfortunately signed the budget. But hey, we haven’t had a budget in years, so I think a Rep Pres should adopt the same model, what do you all think? It could go either way, but we all know how government works…..growing….growing….

  9. We are all screwed and they wont quit. Brian Brady I do enjoy your commentary, your grasp of politics and your ability to communicate. Who are you?

I have a winter house in the desert and enjoyed the metaphor of the home in the desert. People need to feel or at least sense the pain of what our leaders are and will continue to inflict upon us.

What saddens me are the lives that are spent for nothing. Why should you put syrup on taxation. A decent return would please you? Im 65 years old. Served in the Army and retired from the County 10 years ago. Since 1984 I have kept active my California Private Investigators License. I also have done political investigations as a hobby. At all levels. I see no recourse for what the GOP/DNC hacks are doing to us. They offer NO DECENT RETURN because 90 percent are not decent people.

Yes Brian Brady, we are screwed. We are lied to. We have Corporate whoredom. We have puppets like Bush and Obama. There will be no end to our taxation. Not untill the food runs out.

Lets start a new slate on the local level with a guy like Faulkener. Cut City services to the bone. Do we need a park ranger sitting on his ass all day to protect seals? Do we need one garbage truck to pick up trash followed by a second truck to pick up aluminum? Do we need a fire engine followed by an ambulance on residential 911 calls? Do we need to make the McMillans wealthy on our dime. The beat goes on. Food riots are getting closer.

  10. Mike, you can catch me at any County GOP meeting on the second Monday of every month (except in February).

If you’re right about foo riots (I hope you’re wrong but fear you’re not), that house in the desert is going to be a good place to be.
