Credit where credit is due: VOSD broke an important story on Filner trading political favor in exchange for a 6-figure payment. The project, known as Centrepoint, was plagued by Filner’s refusals to grant necessary permits and chatter about the hold-ups was well-known in City Hall circles. Seems Mayor Filner (and co-extortionist Marti Emerald) found himself much more amenable to the project once the the contractor in question coughed up $150,000.
Make no mistake, this is extortion. But whether its Sunroad or this contractor, Carmel Partners, they are just as guilty of the crime as Filner. By giving into his extortion, they are effectively endorsing it. This is the kind of downtown insider pay-to-play stuff that sickens taxpayers and creates a corrupt environment at City Hall.

The Rolando group is correct. The development will house hundreds at SDSU. The builders are splitting hairs and should pay up. BIA shanked again.
