U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina talks about her candidacy live tonight on “The Rick Amato Show’ on KCBQ AM 1170. The interview is set for 9 p.m. You can also listen online at www.kcbq.com. As an added bonus, Rick will be joined by Ralph Hallow, senior political reporter for The Washington Times.  You can join the conversation and ask a question of Fiorina during the show by calling 888-344-1170.

Like her or loathe her, Fiorina always sets off fireworks and tonight should be no different. She created plenty of controversy as the CEO of Hewlett Packard from 1999 to 2005. Previous to this she was an executive VP at AT&T. Fiorina was considered one of the most powerful women in the business world at one time, but was eventually forced to resign after a controversial merger with major competitor Compaq didn’t go too well.

Fiorina has been a strong proponent, along with other technology executives, of the expansion of the H-1B visa program . She personally opposes abortion and voted for Prop 8, the anti-gay marriage measure. She has stated that she opposes litmus tests for Supreme Court nominations.  She defended the selection of Sarah Palin as John McCain’s vice-presidential running mate and objected to what she felt was frequently sexist treatment of Palin.

Fiorina is a recent breast cancer survivor, treated in 2009 with surgery, chemotherapy and radiation with every expectation of a full recovery.

Polls show Fiorina neck and neck with Republican primary opponent Chuck DeVore, but with the majority of Republican voters still undecided.

I’d like to see more businesspeople whether executives or entrepreneurs running for public office and people like Fiorina get instant props from me. But she’ll have to prove she walks the walk AND can beat Barbara Boxer in November.

Fiorina is plenty media savvy and has gone toe to toe with the best of them.  Set your DVR – you can watch American Idol or The Biggest Loser later.

  1. This was the best-done interview of a Senate or Governor
candidate I’ve heard this year. The questions were tough,
but fair, and Ms. Fiorina held up her end of the bargain.

Well done to Rick Amato. This is radio at its best.
