I’ve seen Jeff Schwilk’s emails before, many of which “border” on something pretty obvious.
It looks like some foaming at the mouth is now taking place over David Alvarez.
Call me idealistic, but I’d like to think if anyone works against Alvarez’ election as mayor, it would be based on a disagreement with his policies, or a question about his experience, or maybe simply because the vision of another candidate resonates more for them.
Not because of where his parents were born.
I know conservatives and the Republican Party recognize this ugliness for what it is.
Next will be allegations Alvarez was born in Kenya.
Readers, what are your thoughts?
Email from Jeff Schwilk (jeffschwilk@cox.net)…
Is David Alvarez an Illegal Alien Anchor Baby/Dual Citizen of Mexico? (SD Mayor’s Race)
Does anyone know the answer? This new article says his parents came here from Mexico in the 70’s as farm workers. Those were/are almost always illegal aliens since “guest workers” by nature must return to their home countries after a couple years. Alvarez was apparently born in 1980 in the U.S.
This is very significant because his parents and/or relatives may be here in the U.S. illegally and he may have foreign allegiances to the country of Mexico, just 10 miles south of San Diego. If that is the case, how can he objectively support the enforcement of our nation’s laws in a major city of over 1 million residents if he has foreign criminals in his own family? David Alvarez is the candidate for San Diego mayor officially endorsed by the Democrat Party.
We need to get the answer as to the immigration status of his parents at the time of his birth. Chances are pretty good that Alvarez is a dual citizen of Mexico and the U.S. To my knowledge there has never been a Mexican citizen mayor of a major U.S. city. Alvarez would be the first, although Olga Diaz, a dual Mexican citizen anchor baby by birth, is running for mayor of Escondido in 2014. By contrast, Mexican law does not permit U.S. citizens to run for elected office in Mexico.
Please email back if you have any background on Alvarez. We need to clear this up ASAP.

… Alvarez, 33, has a life story familiar to Latinos with fresh roots in San Diego. Seeking a better life for their family, his parents immigrated in the 1970s from the Mexican state of Jalisco. His father worked as a farmworker…

we don’t need this crap–if, as I suspect, Kevin Faulconer winds up at the top of the heap, he will need to work with not only David Alvarez, but the predominant and growing Hispanic community in our city…you can disagree with David about the policies he advances, but this is something right out of …..Ben Hueso’s playbook (as a Big D, indigo blue Democrat, you have my permission to take any shots you want at Ben–when he’s the target, there really aren’t any cheap shots.)
Every American has immigrant roots. Schwilk’s first instinct about David Alvarez reveals a state of mind that all thoughtful conservatives rightly reject: mindless xenophobia.
Very sad to see such stuff, but we must realize that there are indeed some Mexican-haters within the GOP. Fortunately they represent a minority within the party, but the Left will (smartly) publicize any such xenophobic comments by Republicans.
Alvarez’s parents are 30+ years U.S. residents (though perhaps never here legally — we don’t know that for sure) and so Alvarez — a bonafide U.S. citizen — “might have foreign allegiances”???
Such a repugnant comment should be condemned by Republicans. Let me be the first (well, first half dozen, at least).
Implicit in this diatribe is the notion that foreign immigrants might have foreign allegiances — it really doesn’t matter whether or not they went through some citizenship process. And the same smear holds true for their kids — perhaps their grandkids as well — it’s not clear when that “threat” no longer exists.
When you hate Mexicans (well, brown people), you don’t believe ’em when they take the pledge as a citizen — they could be just hiding their TRUE loyalties to their Mexican overseers — tirelessly working to secretly steal back much of the U.S. for Mexico.
Pathetic.
Or could it be that this was actually a Tony K. attempt to guarantee a high turnout of Alvarez’s supporters, insuring that he will outpoll Fletcher in the Primary? I am surprised that none of the Chairman’s detractors here had already thought of that.
(I am not sure that is exactly what I originally posted, but it is close enough.)
We initially didn’t allow the comment above, missing the humor, as you will see by the subsequent comments.
Jeff Schwilk has been around for years. He is real and so is this email. He doesn’t work with the Republican Party on his missives or efforts. He is solely responsible for his actions.
T.A.,
My comment was meant to be a joke and a “tongue in cheek” slam on all the Tony K. haters. It would take a very thick tin foil hat for anyone to believe that Schwilk’s vile e-mail was actually put out by the Republican Party.
The reaction from the left for Schwilk’s email being posted here is predictable. One such example on Twitter…
Benjamin Katz @MeanestBossEver “I am not going to repeat any of the ugly rumors about my opponent. You know the ones that say he’s….”-@sandiegorostra
Just so we’re clear, if Alvarez did have dual citizenship, how would that be an “ugly rumor”?
HQ:
Thanks for the clarity. Given the non-joking allegations we’ve had today from some indicating otherwise, we may have jumped the gun on your humor. Unfortunately, we can’t now resurrect your original comment.
Please feel free to repost and we’ll try to place it in chronological order.
Make no mistake about it, the suggestion that David Alvarez, a native born American, is somehow not suitable to run for office or that his candidacy is suspect in any way is despicable. Period. End of story.
Tony,
Even if he wasn’t a “native-born” American, Alvarez would be eligible to run for Mayor just like “The Governator” was eligible to run for Governor. If the time comes, you would also be suitable to run for elected office.
Krvaric for Kouncil.
Having naturalized citizens in my own family, and where my grandfather didn’t speak English until he was 14, this type of xenophobic rhetoric is either colossally ignorant, or maliciously derived.
Many Americans criticize the Muslim community for not being more proactve in their overly public and universally collective condemnation of terror acts on Americans and her allies. Yet, Republicans, whether duly or not, must counter this irresponsible and toxic rhetoric with swift and forceful denunciation.
Bravo to the Chairman, Mr. Krvaric, for getting out in front of this and calling it for what it is…dangerous, destructive, and fodder for Dems to exploit.
Thank you to ROSTRA and Steve Gramm (whom I do not know) for posting my email question I sent out to grass roots and tea party leaders on Saturday based on the UT article. I see this post brought out some cockroaches and haters, none of whom had the stones to email me directly with any questions or comments.
Its a simple question that so far no one has answered – apparently they don’t want the answer. Too afraid of being called “racist” by the radical left and La Raza.
Being part Hispanic myself and a retired U.S. Marine, I don’t fear the truth, I crave it! And I don’t fear being called names and smeared for seeking the anwers the GOP “leadership” refuses to seek. Only cowardly anglos fear being called racist for raising legitimate questions about CITIZENSHIP and foreign LOYALTIES. The Left is all over Ted Cruz for being dual US/Canadian citizenship by birth, so yes the voters do have a legitimate right to know if Alvarez or any other candidate for SD mayor is a dual citizen.
Citizenship is by nature about loyalty, so unless Alvarez has renounced his Mexican citizenship, we can only assume he has some loyalty and allegiance to Mexico. BTW, all Mexican citizens, including anchor babies, are encouraged by the Government of Mexico to vote in all their elections. They run ads on our radio and TV stations every election telling Mexicans how to vote from California, so yes, citizenship does matter and those seeking the truth about a candidate’s history and background should not be attacked and called names – that’s a left wing tactic and we Conservatives are better than that.
“I see this post brought out some cockroaches and haters, none of whom had the stones to email me directly with any questions or comments.” – Schwilk
Did Schwilk have the stones to contact David Alvarez directly with his questions or comments?
Hypocrite.
Yes Spin, of course I have contacted the Alvarez Campaign asking the simple question if he is a Mexican/dual citizen.
They have not replied yet. If they do, I will post their answer here. The voters of San Diego have a right to know and they can decide if having a mayor with loyalties to a foreign country is an issue or not.
It’s sad that grass roots citizens groups have to push for this information since our local media refuses to do their jobs.
It is very telling that some so-called Republicans on here want to suppress the truth on the legitimate background of political candidates. This is one reason we ended up with Bob Filner and Barack Obama in office – lack of vetting by the GOP. The citizens cannot afford any more surprises from their high elected politicians.
Truth seekers should be encouraged, not attacked and smeared with vile and false comments.
Meanwhile our coalition will keep fighting illegal immigration and open borders even if the state and local GOP are unwilling to. http://www.SDSB.weebly.com
Isn’t anybody tired of walking this thin line, the one where oh group A can ask/ say/ do anything without reprisal with the accompaniment of a sob story. Amazing how the other stories never make it to masses.
Crime, monetary strain, demanding rights Group B does not have.
Allegiance? You know why the question is asked? It has not one thing to do with racism. It has everything to do with the truth. I’ve had many of conversations with Group A. There is no hesitation or fear stating
Allegiance and it’s not red/ white/blue. Group B simply cannot state the truth or ask questions they will be roasted . Group A’s supporters count on that to make B back down. Aw but it’s not a two wat street is it? Obviously Steve saw the email as Gravy, printed it. Did you get honest conversation? no! Until we can ask the real questions, get real answers this stuff will reign supreme.
We’ll ask only once. Huh?
