In yet another example of Soviet-style cronyism and centralized planning, the Escondido Politb-… I mean, Escondido City Council voted to place a temporary ban on all car washes, eroding material value from a property purchased for that purpose.    From KUSI News:

Everyone knows we love our clean cars in Southern California. But Escondido could have the cleanest cars in San Diego County: 28 car washes and counting.

“We just need to look at this closer. Do we really need any more car washes in town?” said Escondido City Manager Jeffery Epp.

This came as a big shock to the local businessman who bought a piece of land, got most of it approved for a car wash, then the city pulled the plug.

“We did the environmental studies, we did traffic studies, who did everything needed and I was waiting for final approval. Then they decided to impose a moratorium on me,” said Wash n Go owner Neil Capin.

Capin invested a lot of money in the old skating rink, a place that has a lot of nostalgia, but it’s been shut down for 10 years.

You may recall when the Escondido City Council was punished for stealing value from another man’s property.  The Council, led by Mayor Abed, condemned the former Escondido Country Club from developing the property according to 40 year old zoning approvals.

In another example of centralized planning, The City Council limited 99 cents stores for the same reason they are limiting car washes– the Council members (in their infinite wisdom), believe there are “too many of them”.

President Ronald Reagan once lampooned Soviet-Style centralized planning in his “Time For Choosing” speech””

“The more the plans fail, the more the planners plan”

This third exhibition of centralized planning in Escondido, begets this question for the Council members–

“Are you corrupt or just incredibly arrogant?”

No matter what the answer is, they need to stop calling themselves “conservatives”
