Tuesday night Texas Governor Rick Perry gave an interview to Greta VanSusteren on Fox News. In the interview Governor Perry brags about how, “153 businesses, just since the first of the year, have moved out of California to Texas”.
As your future State Assemblyman, I’m extremely concerned about the growing number of businesses being forced to flee California due to over-regulation and over-taxation. It amazes me how upfront Governor Perry is about courting such businesses and the jobs they bring.
We need to get California turned around, and we need to get it turned around now!
I’ve spent the past seven days in Sacramento getting to know the other members of my freshman class. I am encouraged that voters have assembled such a pro-busness group of legislators who are committed to making California the land of opportunity.
I’m looking forward to getting the opportunity to serve along side this freshman class. We will do everything in our power to turn our state around, and bring jobs back to California.
Thank you and God bless,
Brian Jones

Wouldn’t it be true to say the Air Resources Board and
majorities in the state legislature have made War on
the California economy for 3 decades?
I hope you and your colleagues can put the brakes
on many of those bad policies in Sacramento
He’s picking low, low, low hanging fruit more than he is declaring war! Sure hope you can lead the charge to make some kid of difference, Brian.
Both California and Texas have massive budget deficits. California is $25 billion in the red and, if I recall correctly, Texas has a shortfall of $21 billion or so.
Over the next few months it will be interesting to watch how the leaders of these two states try to address their budget deficits. Will they try to raise taxes? Cut programs? Offer incentives to attract businesses and create jobs? What will they do? And what will the respective results be?
California will be controlled by Democrats. Texas by Republicans. Which state will come out ahead?
The California state legislature declared war on businesses a long time ago. Its like a dysfunctional abusive relationship. It’s their own fault. I am a native San Diegan who will never return. Bad economy, no place to finish raising my kids. The state has been run into the ground. In Texas I am middle class. In California, I am working poor.
Think of it this way. Texas is a low tax state and has a high current deficit (NOT the norm in Texas). California is a HIGH tax state, and we have a high deficit year after year after year (the magnitude is hidden by accounting tricks).
The lesson? Higher taxes are NOT used to close deficits — the higher revenue is spent by our profligate politicians — and usually is spent on recurring costs (such as increasing public employee pay and benefits). And that deficit spending happens in most governments — national, state and local.
But there is one big difference in this case. Texas is drawing businesses and productive individuals to their low tax, business friendly state. California’s high taxes and oppressive regulation is driving businesses OUT of California — a death spiral for the Golden State..
