Haney Hong, President and CEO of the San Diego County Taxpayers Association, released the following statement today:
“The independent evaluation of SANDAG’s communication efforts showed the agency did indeed know about revenue forecasting errors before they were exposed. The SANDAG Board should immediately begin a review of what it could have done to prevent this obfuscation of public information. Beginning by adopting our recommendations for greater transparency and structural oversight, SANDAG should take corrective action at the staff and Board levels to ensure the agency works in service of taxpayer interests and not its own public image.
“Revelations of SANDAG’s efforts to actively withhold and delete information clearly demonstrate a violation of the public’s trust. Restoring this trust will be imperative if SANDAG leadership wishes to be effective.”
