Following much recent speculation that two prominent Republicans might face each other next year for a termed-out Mark Kersey’s San Diego City Council seat (see prior post below), Poway Schools Trustee T.J. Zane announced today that he decided against running…

Friends:

I’m sending this brief note to let you know I will not be pursuing a seat on the San Diego City Council.

I am grateful for all of the early endorsements and expressions of support I received, however, I’ve decided it’s just not the right time for me and my family.

More important to Rozanna and me is being involved as much as we can in the daily lives and activities (Scouting, sports, etc.) of our three children, who range in age from 4 to 15 — particularly before our oldest leaves for college. Additionally, I remain committed to doing the impactful work (especially in the area of student and campus safety) supporters and voters re-elected me to do as a member of the Board of Education in the Poway Unified School District.

Again, thank you.

May our paths cross again soon!

Responses on Zane’s Facebook page were immediately supportive of his decision.

Joe Leventhal, another Republican in the race, told Rostra, “Poway Unified is lucky to have T.J.’s service as the voters recognized with his re-election in November. I’ve always been impressed with his dedication to public service.”
