The state of Arizona finally caught a break; the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the state’s ability to require employers to use the federal E-Verify program. The decision also allows the state to revoke business licenses of companies that knowingly hire illegal workers.
The E-Verify program is a successful federal program that uses Social Security card numbers to ensure prospective employees are able to legally work inside the United States. Proponents of E-Verify would like to see this program used by all businesses in the country and say it would curtail illegal aliens from crossing the porous southern borders because they would no longer be able to get a job.
“Today’s Supreme Court decision that upholds a state’s right to revoke business licenses of companies that knowingly hire illegal workers is a giant leap in the right direction for meaningful immigration reform,” said Congressman Brian Bilbray (R-CA), Chairman of the bi-partisan House Immigration Reform Caucus.
