San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond this morning announced his candidacy for Congress in the 49th District, currently held by Mike Levin.
In addition to the video and release below, Desmond told SD Rostra, “Just this week, Levin voted against protecting women’s sports — a move that defies common sense. Women and girls deserve a fair and level playing field, and I won’t stand by while their opportunities are erased. In Congress, I’ll fight for fairness, integrity, and common-sense principles.”
Announcement
I’m officially running for Congress in California’s 49th District! As a proud North County resident for over 35 years, a U.S. Navy Veteran, and former Delta Airline Pilot, I’m stepping up to bring common-sense leadership and real results to Washington, D.C.
All my life, I’ve been focused on solving problems—because let’s face it, there are problems that need fixing. Whether it was starting my own business, serving as an airline pilot for Delta for 33 years, or working as a San Diego County Supervisor, my mission has always been to fix what’s broken and make things better.
My promise to you is simple: I will be that same problem solver in Congress. As a U.S. Navy Veteran, retired Delta Airline Pilot, and District 5 San Diego County Supervisor, I have spent over 35 years living in and serving North County San Diego. Now, I’m ready to bring effective leadership and real results from Washington, D.C.
Our community is facing growing challenges, and it’s becoming unbearable for many to live in California. The cost of living is driving working families and seniors out of this state. This is unacceptable.
During my time as Mayor of San Marcos and now as your County Supervisor, I’ve built a proven record of delivering results. From prioritizing public safety to supporting families, seniors, and our military community, my leadership has always been about practical solutions.
It’s time for common sense to return to government. My top priorities will be focused on delivering real solutions for the critical issues that matter most to our community:
- Lowering Costs: Taking on inflation and making life affordable for families and seniors.
- Safer Communities: Addressing crime, homelessness, and mental health challenges.
- Strong Border: Fixing our broken immigration system by securing our border.
- Supporting Veterans: Ensuring our military heroes get the respect and care they deserves.
But I can’t do this alone. This campaign will take a true grassroots effort, and I need your help. Your support—whether through volunteering, spreading the word, or making a donation—will be the key to sending a strong voice to Washington.
