Stuck on Stupid?

Take the Encinitas Transit Survey!!!

No doubt some fool consultant, or some clever consultant is promoting this survey and charging the city $$. The problems are that:

A) It’s “Opt in” and therefore bereft of any semblance of scientific or statistical validity, and

B) It doesn’t prevent anyone from taking it multiple times from the same computer (So I’m told) 😉

Really, I encourage you to take it numerous times using fun facts!

Remember the old computer adage “garbage in – garbage out”? This is worse, it’s just garbage. For about $80 the city could have gone to “Survey Monkey” and had a more reliable survey. At least Survey Monkey tracks cookies!! I bet Encinitas paid about $15,000 for this, which is the approximate price of an actually statistically valid survey. I hope I’m wrong, but this is just dumb…

It’s frustrating.

  1. Too late! The survey is now closed to online input. Darn!

Jerome Stocks and I often disagree, but NOT on this! Total idiocy.

I think someone at city hall must have (belatedly) figured this was indeed a strikingly moronic idea. But doubtless the consultant still gets his bucks, and will tout this survey effort in his resume’. Other govt agencies will clamor for the services of this “expert.”

And believe me, they WILL get “serviced.” Serviced the way a cow is serviced by a bull.

It reminds me of the dog business consultant in Dilbert. Though the dog showed more shrewdness.

  2. Don’t worry Richard, I voted for you
about 600 times with a little creative programming.

Too bad the city doesn’t have a good system for these types of problems to be aired in public as a means to correct them and give an incentive to end stupid things like this.

Got any ideas for ways to change how citizens can hold city hall accountable and turn citizen feedback into constructive impact.

Just blogging about it is just whining about it, right?
