Several mayors from across San Diego County will protest Wednesday against State legislation they say would “force cities to let known criminals roam unchecked.”
Calling it “a dangerous anti-public safety bill,” El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells and ‘Mayors for Safe Cities’ will stand in opposition to SB 54 (De Leon) tomorrow, legislation that would prevent state and local law enforcement agencies from notifying federal immigration authorities of “dangerous criminals being released from incarceration.”
“This misguided effort blocks all common sense cooperation with federal immigration officials and will surely mean that dangerous criminals will be returned to our cities and neighborhoods,” Wells said. “With a California beset by crime, gang violence and sex trafficking, mayors simply cannot afford to be as reckless with public safety as state lawmakers.”
The California Police Chiefs Association is opposed to the bill.

Typical right wing fear mongering. The fact is that immigrants (legal or not) are less likely to commit crimes than citizens. If you really want this problem to go away, start arresting those that employ illegals. You could start with all the farm owners but there are two problems with that. They would all go out of business and they all vote Republican.
Bye the way, Republicans just approved tele-coms the “freedom” to sell all your on line data. I hope y’all are real proud of that. This is getting sicker by the hour.
George Wallace. Another famous Democrat, Wallace, decided that federal law wasn’t to be followed. His famous quote, “I draw the line in the dust and toss the gauntlet before the feet of tyranny, and I say segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever.” could be adopted and modified by Jerry Brown and the current crowd of California Democrats. “I draw the line in the dust and toss the gauntlet before the feet of tyranny, and I say illegals now, illegals tomorrow, illegals forever.” The Kennedys sent the 2nd Infantry Division from Ft Benning to force federal integration laws. Now, Trump should force the First Marine Division to force compliance with immigration law. Of course, the Democrats will howl and scream. Isn’t it funny how if you live long enough, you always get to see the shoe on the other foot?
It’s not the “Liberals” who wanted illegals. It’s the various lobbies that benefit from their labor who paid congress to not enforce the law. In America it’s always about the money.
Paul, sorry, but you’re somewhat incorrect. It’s liberal organizations like the California Teachers’ Union (CTA) who got their lackeys in the legislature to put into the state Educational Code that it is illegal to ask a student if they are in the country legally. (No pun intended.) It was the liberal judges who upheld that law. It’s the liberal politicians who make sanctuary cities (elected in part by illegals voting). I could go on and on, but the entire illegal problem is squarely at the feet of liberals/Democrats. The time has come to pay the piper.
When will these Rethuglicans mayors understand that they are not welcome in our state! It’s time for them either to clean their names and join the blue state umbrella, or take their bigotry outside our Golden State! Shame on the Republican Party! I am sure that if Lincoln was alife today, he would be slamming his face!
“When will these Rethuglicans mayors understand that they are not welcome in our state!”
I’m pretty sure that Californians elected those mayors. No..in fact, I’m QUITE sure that Californians elected those mayors.
“take their bigotry outside our Golden State!”
Oh..republicans are racists if they don’t tow the progressive line. That’s a new one (eyeroll)
Immigrants have been large part of the USA. Myself being an immigrant, though legal from day one. With the bill proposed in the CA legislature makes a mockery of immigration laws. Most Mexicans prefer legal immigration and are concerned about criminals hiding behind the mask of well intentioned self appointed spokes person. A well designed “work-permit” law should be the goal if La Rostra wants to help Mexicans.
I was stunned to learn how uninformed many Mexicans are, based on misinformation disseminated. Recently I talked to a lady who was born in the US and her mother is a US citizen. Her father who came at the same time as her mother is illegal. I informed her that he is eligible for a green card (I believe Second Preference). She claimed that her father couldn’t pass the language test. Which I replied, “for permanent residency, (green card), there is no language test.” She was concerned about Pres. Trump and his policies to round up illegal aliens with a criminal record. Wish La Rostra took the time and educate it’s readers.
