Today’s Vote Would Enable IRS To Keep Targeting Conservative Groups
WASHINGTON – In the latest vote during the House’s “Stop Government Abuse Week,” members just voted to prohibit the Obama Administration from changing the rules used to grant tax-exempt status to organizations to fit their political agenda.
Scott Peters today inexplicably voted to prevent this and keep IRS targeting in place. Why does Peters believe an official government agency should target American citizens solely based on their political beliefs? Instead of stepping in and preventing federal government overreach, Peters is enabling this inappropriate targeting to continue.
“Yet again, Scott Peters has voted in a simply inexplicable fashion,” said NRCC Communications Director Andrea Bozek. “No one should have to worry about the government targeting Americans for their political beliefs. It’s these types of shameful and inexcusable votes that show California voters why they need new representation in Congress.”
