Press Release from County GOP…
CITY LABOR UNIONS ENDORSE NEW DEMOCRAT NATHAN FLECTCHER
Seizing the Opportunity to Cash in on Fletcher’s Ever Changing “Principles”
SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Municipal Employees Association and the San Diego Firefighters Union IAFF Local 145 announced today they have endorsed newly minted Democrat Nathan Fletcher for Mayor of San Diego.
Fletcher received failing scores on every union scorecard during his time in the state legislature. With his dismal labor union ratings as a California State Assemblyman, the people of San Diego have to wonder what secret backroom deals are being made.
Chairman Tony Krvaric responded, “Today’s endorsement of newly minted Democrat Nathan Fletcher by the same labor unions that brought us Bob Filner, should cause every San Diegan concern. We need honor and integrity at City Hall, not backroom deals.”

Nathan Fletcher should improve on his previous race for mayor, he’ll finish 2nd this time.
Union bought and sold. Combine that with arrogant beyond belief and unprincipled..and you have a Democrat. Welcome to the party Nathan.
“And as your Mayor, I’ll do the same. I’ve taken the tough positions. I opposed Proposition D, I support the Comprehensive Pension Reform, I support the ban on Project Labor Agreements, I support the outsourcing of City services”– March, 2012
Nathan Fletcher, The “Magic Democrat”
Classic – Fletcher wants to get this news out quickly and hope voters forget where his money is coming from by election day. Fat chance Nathan.
Loving his new name “The Magic Democrat” and will use it often.
“Loving his new name “The Magic Democrat” and will use it often.”
To be fair, I stole that moniker from Jim Miller at Dan Diego Free Press:

…but it’s SOOO good. Use it. Often
I will walk precincts for literally ANYONE (other than Lori S.) to defeat him. Donna? Sign me up. Todd? Where do I report? Toni Atkins? Best councilwoman EVER! I can not fathom someone whose first “real job” was being a party organizer and who campaigned as a rock solid I-15 Republican switching like this. Boggles the mind.
Will be interesting to see where his money comes from as several unions were tapped out in their support of Filner causing a schism amongst those who now blame Lorena Gonzalez and brother Marco for wasting union money by attacking Filner. A lot of labor money was not spent to elect Filner so much as to assuage the fear of DeMaio. The race for mayor in many ways was a national campaign. Will national labor come to the rescue? Who is afraid of Faulconer?
When you have no principles, you drift like the wind into any corner it moves you. Nathan was out of corners
Unions WILL fund their candidate big-time, which clearly (at this point) is Nathan Fletcher.
Fletcher has what many would deem a character flaw, but it’s a flaw that is a HUGE asset in politics — he doesn’t care about issues. He’ll gladly flip-flop on just about any policy to gain political advantage and financial support.
In the insurance business, we would call the electoral process an exercise in “adverse selection.” By the very nature of voters selecting our representatives, we have a tendency to pick the ones with the weakest policy principles — political chameleons that can change their colors to adapt to changing situations — even within the same day (I’ve witnessed this in political campaigns as a candidate)..
People such as Carl DeMaio are rare creatures in this process — a candidate/politician who is unswerving in his commitment to his issues. It’s what makes them so hard to elect, and so valuable once elected.
The Magic Democrat can’t do anything without the support of friends, family, and strangers. He has a lot of support. Enough support? I doubt it. But my point is that someone who can be bought so easily , but still gets so much support from people is a clear message on how voters think today.
We can complian about it and not like it, but long term, the best thing to do is figure out how to deal with and change it or our sytem of government on all levels is in big, big trouble.
Rumor has it that the labor unions are willing to do anything to prevent DeMaio from becoming mayor. The early endorsements are meant to scare out Democrats that actually have a record because there is not a strong consensus within the rank and file Democratic Central Committee to get behind Fletcher. There are some who seem to believe that if another Democrat gets in they could actually get the Democratic Party endorsement and that Fletcher will once again jump ship to become an Independent. Even Fletcher cannot be that stupid, or could he?
Some of the best commentary I have read on Nathan Fletcher:
