“Scott Peters’ extreme and reckless positions on automatically increasing government debt only adds to the dysfunction in Washington.” -Carl DeMaio
San Diego – Having built a national reputation as an expert in government budgeting and fiscal reform, Carl DeMaio spoke out against Rep. Scott Peters’ extreme and reckless proposals to increase government debt.
“The federal government’s finances are already unsustainable, but instead of addressing wasteful spending, Scott Peters is proposing an extreme and reckless idea to allow our debt to automatically increase,” DeMaio said.
This week, Scott Peters fell right in line with his Democratic Party leadership in calling for an increase in the nation’s debt limit without any conditions, public accountability or regard for reforming runaway or wasteful spending.
Scott Peters has also introduced legislation to make increases in the nation’s debt automatic. Under Peter’s proposal, the debt limit would even increase during economically prosperous times. Many fiscal reformers have argued that debt should shrink – not increase – when the economy grows. “We all know that when times are good, you pay off your debt,” cautioned local San Diego taxpayer watchdog Richard Rider. “Scott Peters, however, thinks you should raise the credit card limits and go shopping,” Rider said.
DeMaio has been openly critical of extreme views on both sides of the fight over the approval of the federal government’s annual budget and associated debt limit authorization.
“On the one extreme, you have Scott Peters pushing for automatic debt increases without any reform of wasteful spending – and on the other extreme you have a small faction willing to shut the government down entirely,” DeMaio lamented.
“I believe both extremes are out of step with the American people, and I’m looking forward to bringing the same kind of common-sense fiscal reform to Congress that we got successfully implemented here in San Diego with bipartisan support,” DeMaio concluded.

Peters keeps saying he’s a leader. Has anyone heard anything he tried to take the lead on? Just going with Pelosi/Reid flow.
DeMaio- “On the one extreme, you have Scott Peters pushing for automatic debt increases without any reform of wasteful spending – and on the other extreme you have a small faction willing to shut the government down entirely,” DeMaio lamented.
What is Mr. DeMaio’s stance regarding Senator Cruz’s argument on the senate floor? Is Senator Cruz, and those that believe as he does, an extremist?
Perhaps a moderator in a debate could ask that question.
Is shutting down the government not extreme? Without making a judgement on the action being good or bad, I’m sure we can all agree it’s extreme.
Where were all you principled conservatives when the debt limit was raised under St Ronnie and the Bushes how many times?
I guess it’s all in one’s perspective.
Then Senator Obama was vehemently in favor of restricting the raising of the debt limit back in 2006-2007, and now is “fixing bayonets” on not negotiating with Republicans over the ties with Obama Care…yet is calling the Republicans “extremists” for drawing the line on Obama-Care…while apparently able to talk to Iranian terror leaders…the same ones providing IED materials and training to terrorists killing our soldiers…as we speak.
When the President draws the line its labeled “conviction.” When Republicans take a stand, its anarchy…terrorism…hijacking…the double standard as screeched by the Democrats and echoed by the sycophantic media is so palpable, you could cut it with a spoon.
Shutting down the government makes no sense. What does make sense is taking the Government Accounting Office’s (GAO) report that calls out 1500 Federal programs that are ineffective, duplicative and redundant and cutting the crap out of them. This is not about keeping the bureaucratic and political class whole. This is about getting fiscal sanity restored and the American Dream back on track.
Unless he is also willing to call out Ted Cruz and Peter King for their “extreme and reckless behavior” for threatening to shut down the government, DeMaio is just another partisan hack and has no credibility on this issue
Is President Obama not also engaging in “extreme” behavior when he will not consider any additional provisos in the CRM/Budget when that has been a standard tactic for decades by the minority?
Mr. Obama said he was going to “fundamentally change the United Staes of America”…why is anyone surprised that Americans would find friction, hence conviction, when that was precisely what he said he was going to do? No thinking person would reject this whole Machiavellian maneuver by the Administration is about the Single Payer mandate…thus only adding to the fuel of the “fundamental” change proclamation. And now principled Americans are standing in opposition to this proclamation…and the Progressive Liberals, the media, and all their enablers are vilifying them for it.
Does anyone remember the Wisconsin teacher’s Unions ransacking the state capitol…or the Occupy Movement, defecting and assaulting in their compounds?
Mr. DeMaio doesn’t seem to stand on either side…gingerly playing both ends against the middle, and claiming “moderation.”…Will this be his stance with other important issues?..National security as well? Just as Mr. Obama seems quite comfortable dealing with real terrorists and sucking up first with the Muslim Brotherhood and now the Iranian regime?
Not all moderation is good…just ask the British in 1938 about Munich…lots of moderation…7 years and 25-35 million deaths later, “moderation” wasn’t looking so good…
OBTW-If you want to know who the new Iranian president is, see the link below. You might reconsider the President’s unprecedented “feel good” move.

Carl has built a national reputation on fiscal reform? So sayeth Carl. Congressional duties are way over the head of this political monger. It is a shame Faulconer is set on a dead end job of Mayor.
Carl, both sides out of step? Your going to bring common sense to Congress? Are you for real? Your common sense and fiscal abilities are all this nation needs?
So far Peters has the Veterans vote. Scott has stood by the veterans in his many job capacities, as had Brian Bilbray. Scott like Bilbray is a good man. Vets like good Men.
“…vets like good men….”
Well then, they will certainly like Kirk Jorgensen.

In addition to being a good man, he IS a combat veteran, and understands first hand the challenges and tribulations of a large swath of his potential constituents; VETS. A differentiator is he also does NOT come with all the muddled political baggage either Mr. Peters or Mr. DeMaio bring to the table. In uncertain times, he brings a level of experience and expertise having been directly involved in thwarting the greatest single threat to American security and prosperity in a generation as a combat intelligence operative.-Global Jihadist Terror.
Carl is right. We need to address wastefull spending. Unfortunately almost zero conservatives want to address the biggest source:military spending. Perhaps Carl’s vast experience in the private sector will help remedy this.
