Citing Nathan Fletcher’s strong commitment to education and economic
development, Qualcomm CEO Dr. Paul Jacobs today endorsed Fletcher’s campaign
for mayor.
“Nathan Fletcher represents the kind of forward-looking leader San Diego
needs,” said Dr. Jacobs. “He is committed to improving education so our
children can compete in the global economy. Nathan has a plan to improve our
schools and the ability to get it done.”
Jacobs announced his endorsement after Fletcher unveiled his Education Plan.
The plan seeks to close the digital divide in San Diego and create the
Mayor of San Diego’s Education Foundation which will be charged with
planning, funding and implementing the mayor’s education agenda.

the entire Jacobs family have left an indelible mark on our region and
represent the best of San Diego. When I am mayor, I will work each and every
day to ensure that our children are prepared to succeed and contribute to

Dr. Paul Jacobs is chief executive officer and chairman of the board of
Qualcomm Incorporated, the world leader in 3G and next-generation mobile
technologies. As a leader in mobile communications and an architect of
Qualcomm’s technology innovations, Dr. Jacobs has spearheaded Qualcomm’s
efforts to develop and commercialize mobile technology breakthroughs that
have contributed significantly to the growth of the industry.
Dr. Jacobs has been granted more than 40 patents for his inventions in the
areas of wireless technology and devices. Dr. Jacobs received his
bachelor’s (1984) and master’s (1986) degrees as well as his doctorate
(1989) in electrical engineering from the University of California,
Berkeley.
