On The Other Hand, He May Be More of the Same

Republicans are in near euphoria over the prospect of Scott Brown beating Martha Coakley in today’s special Massachusetts election for the senate seat vacated by Ted Kennedy. I share their enthusiasm, but only cautiously so. I watched this guy carefully in a Sean Hannity interview. Seldom did I hear a straight answer to any of Sean’s questions. Brown went out of his way to criticize the Democrats who take their marching orders from Obama. That sounded fine, but he then went on to say that he would take his marching orders from nobody. Naturally, I can appreciate a man who thinks for himself with courageous independence. On the other hand, was that code for “Don’t expect me to cooperate with the Republicans too much. After all, I have those liberals and Independents to also impress.” ?

In answer to Hannity’s primary concern, namely a promise to block the fast racing health care bill, Brown explained that we needed to “go back to the drawing board.” That can mean anything. The state senator from Massachusetts was not actually promising in so many words that he was against a health care bill, just this particular form of a health care bill. That is not much different than what many of the “moderate” Democrats were saying before they were bought off.

I realize our country is set up to be governed by politicians. Nevertheless, how sad to think that at the end of the day,We may be sending nothing but another politician to Washington.

Yes, I do understand: Compared to Martha Coakley, Brown looks and sounds like George Washington and Abe Lincoln rolled up in one. So, of course, I hope he wins. But I am also hoping we are not double crossed. If so, there may be as much of a referendum on Republicans as Democrats in November.

In any event, I’m not claiming to be sure about any of this. On the other hand, here is something we can probably take to the bank: If Scott Brown beats Martha Coakley, watch for the following things to happen:

-Democratic pundits will scream, “Voter fraud!” Because of their track record supporting ACORN, they will try very hard to talk about voter fraud with a straight face.
-They will demand a recount.
-They will claim that African-Americans were disenfranchised and kept from the polls.

-Our current congress will seek to delay certification of the new senator until, (by an amazing coincidence) the health care bill has passed. But that won’t be their stated reason. Their stated reason will be fraud and racism. They may not succeed in this effort, but I believe they will try…OR…

-The House will go ahead and attempt to pass the current version of the Senate bill without refining it. Again, that may be vain effort, as some Democratic representatives jump ship, out of “Massachusetts panic” but I do believe we’ll see the effort from this current government which has such contempt for its own voters.

No big deal making such a prediction. Any thinking person could have done the same, right?

  1. Bob, I am so excited about tonight’s election. My saddest election was when I flew into Chicago for business on election night 08′. I have not felt this enthusiastic about an election since 94′ when Howard Kaloogian and Steve Baldwin won their Assembly seats, Brian Bilbray beat 1 termer Lynn Schenk, and took over Congress and the State Assembly. How did we lose all of that? By not sticking with the Contract? By not giving living by our professed principles. Mass. does not want a Susan Collins Republican in the Senate. I hope Scott Brown understands that because if he doesn’t, he will surely be a 1 termer (a partial one at that). Tonight I rejoice with Scott Brown and I am once again extremely optimistic about the future. November 2, 2010 is going to be awesome folks!

  2. Gentlemen:

Some good news to share after looking at how liberal and
conservative interest groups rated Scott Brown’s voting
record as a State legislative official.

It shows him solidly conservative on taxes, spending and
2nd Amendment, and middle-road on social issues. By Massachusetts standards, quite conservative.

NFIB agve him a 100% score, as did Citizens for Limited
Taxation, and he earned an “A” from the NRA.

Did you ask a question? Because if you did it is not in any of the comments on this particular article.

Or did you mean that we are asking questions about Brown that cannot currently be answered? That is true.
