I came across a Fletcher fundraising invite today, hosted at the home of notorious plaintiffs lawyer and convicted felon Bill Lerach. What is most striking is Lerach is the same Lerach who sued the late Fletcher booster Duane Roth’s company, Alliance Pharmaceuticals, and famously said about the suit, “I don’t give a f*** about the merits.” Duane and Ted Roth, rather than settle out of court like most targets of Lerach and other predatory trial lawyers, decided to fight it, spending $2 million before a judge threw the suit out.
We all know about No-Show-Nate’s sense of “loyalty” and one has to wonder if Duane was still alive (as you may know he’s posthumously supporting Nathan’s candidacy), would Nate have the nerve to schedule this event at Lerach’s La Jolla mansh, paid for with the sweat-equity and risk-taking of entrepenuers like Duane Roth?
Keep it classy, Nate!
It’s also worth noting that while No-Show-Nate enjoys his $400,000 no-show job at technology giant Qualcomm and markets himself as an “innovator” (what has he ever innovated besides the triple-flippy, which is being a member of 3 political parties in one year), his new friend Lerach is living off millions made suing technology companies in frivolous suits. Wired Magazine even called him a “bloodsucking scumbag.”
This is who we want for mayor?

Wikipedia also has this to say about Bill Lerach:
“For over 30 years, Lerach was a securities lawyer. He headed up the prosecution of securities class and stockholder derivative actions which resulted in billions of dollars of recoveries for defrauded shareholders of Wall Street banks, major accounting firms, corporations and insurance companies.”
As for him being a convicted felon, he was convicted of obstruction of justice at the same time as he was suing Halliburton and then Vice-President, Dick Cheney. As Richard Rider would say, “Hmmm.”
Gosh I hope that someone gets on him for this during debates. It is a travesty for someone to stand up and say they support the High-tech industry and then take money from this scum. I saw the damage Lerach did to countless small tech entrepreneurs at my first ‘real” job working for the American Electronics Association. Every day Nathan irritates me just a bit more
Bill Lerach is a bottom feeder. No doubt, if he hadn’t been disbarred, he’d still be wreaking havoc on the likes of Qualcomm.
I would like to hear Richard Rider’s opine on this one.
This really reeks. First of all, even being associated with Lerach is low…but the Roth connection is really a low blow. Does Nathan have any morals? We know he has no principals, but this is just gross. Maybe too much Filner rubbed off on Nathan during their courtship.
It is astonishing that Fletcher is doing an event hosted by Bill Lerach. He was convicted of a felony and disbarred in 2009. Here is the California State Bar record of his disbarment:
_________________________________________
*March 12, 2009*
WILLIAM S. LERACH [#68581], 63, of San Diego was summarily disbarred March 12, 2009, and was ordered to comply with rule 9.20. Lerach pleaded guilty in 2007 to one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice and make material false declarations under oath. The conviction met the requirements for summary disbarment: it is a felony involving moral turpitude. Lerach has been on interim suspension since Nov. 21, 2007.The one-time class action king admitted in federal court to playing a part in a scheme to pay kickbacks in order to gain an advantage in lucrative class action lawsuits. He was sentenced to two years in prison and was ordered to forfeit $7.75 million. (See June 2009 California Bar Journal.)

Lerach had a paid “stooge” plaintiff who would buy one share of a particular stock so that Lerach could file a class action against the company. It is a violation of federal law for any attorney to pay someone to file an action. Lerach got caught when the “stooge” hit him up for more money and Lerach refused to pay. The “stooge” turned him in.
I think that the State Bar record quoted above should be in Faulconer campaign brochures and in the broadcast spots.
I wonder if Irwin Jacobs likes being on the same page with Lerach?
At this point in time, why is anyone shocked at Fletcher or his actions? The man is a psychopath without any morals.
So, you’ve clinically diagnosed him?
Seriously, Marshall, knowing what you know about Rostra, that raises the level of debate?
It would have been just as effective to call him a politician.
We’re pretty sure that if a “progressive” were on here calling a Republican pathological, some readers would expect that we take down the comment. It goes both ways. Party doesn’t matter. What we think of someone doesn’t matter. Even if a commenter is certain something is true, if it’s only an opinion, it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t even matter if 95 percent of readers here have come to the same conclusion, based on a politician’s track record.
That’s the bottom line. Discussing and debating the track record serves a point far better than simply name calling.

Hypocrisy quotes WIKIPEDIA as his source to tell us how wonderful a humanitarian Bill Lerach is. Oh my oh MY!
Wikipedia can be modified by anyone. And who has more interest in making Bill Lerach look good than Bill Lerach?
Pathetic.
But I DO like Hypocrisy coming forward to champion bottomfeeder Lerach. It tells us much about our anonymous poster HP. More than he intended, I suspect.
Thor’s Assistant
I am sorry if my statement went over the line and I apologize. I let my emotions get out of hand. I will say that this continues to show any lack of integrity on his part.
However, I think Nathan Fletcher’s change is more than just politics. Politicians change positions all the time. We’ve seen candidates change positions and views from one extreme to the other, from one election to the next. This is different in my opinion. Nathan Fletcher has not only gone from one end of the political spectrum to the other, he has done it while trying to claim the moral high ground while burying the party and his supporters.
One again, I apologise if my statement went over the line.
No need to apologize. We hope intellect rules the discussion here, even when referencing those with whom we have strong disagreements or for whom we may have strong disdain. You are a much appreciated participant and a worthy debater!
Richard,
I understand that you hate plaintiffs’ attorneys. Most of us do, at least until we need one.
I certainly was not championing Bill Lerach. I was simply pointing out that he, like most people, have many good deeds to go along with the bad. Or do you think that Enron was really an honest company and their shareholders should have simply accepted their losses as part of the risk one takes when investing in the stock market?
And I am surprised that you don’t find it the least bit fishy that Mr. Lerach was targeted for criminal investigation at the same time he was suing Halliburton and then Vice-President Dick Cheney. My guess is that it would be different if it was a Republican fundraiser who was suing Joe Biden.
