In what is anticipated to drive major funding into Diane Harkey’s campaign coffers, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy has endorsed her for Congress in the throw down to replace a retiring Darrell Issa for the 49th Congressional District. Sources close to the Harkey campaign confirmed the information for SD Rostra today, although a press release was initially not anticipated until after the weekend.
As this post was going up, a Harkey release arrived, including her statement:
“I am honored and grateful to receive the endorsement of our Majority Leader who is working so hard to expand our economy, protect taxpayers and keep our nation strong,” said Harkey. “I believe the endorsement is a recognition of the hard work we have done in the District to make sure the 49th stays red in 2018 and House Republicans maintain the majority.”
Harkey, a GOP member of the State Board of Equalization, is waged in a battle against more than a dozen candidates, including Assemblyman Rocky Chávez and San Diego County Supervisor Kristin Gaspar — both Republicans — and a handful of Democrats.
