This Wednesday, Rostra readers and fellow travelers have the rare opportunity to directly address the senior law enforcement official in San Diego County, express your concerns and ask your questions.

The San Diego Press Club is hosting a breakfast forum with Sheriff Bill Gore on March 23, 8 to 9:30 a.m. The event will take place at the KGTV 10 News studios off Route 94 and Federal Boulevard.

Sheriff Gore’s law enforcement career spans nearly 40 years. He spent 32 years in the FBI, where he rose to the level of Assistant Director. He served as Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Seattle and San Diego Field Divisions, where he implemented the FBI Cyber Crime Squad and Joint Terrorism Task Force. He played a significant role in establishing the San Diego Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory, the first of its kind in the United States.

After retiring from the FBI, Gore served as Special Advisor and Chief Investigator to the San Diego County District Attorney. He served as Assistant Sheriff of the department’s Law Enforcement Services Bureau and as the Undersheriff to former Sheriff Bill Kolender. From those posts he led the department’s initiative to address Indian Gaming, expanded the Sheriff’s air operations to include two fire-fighting helicopters and the Department’s crime lab DNA operations. He spearheaded the creation of the Regional Terrorism Threat Assessment Center (RTTAC). When Kolender retired, the county Board of Supervisors appointed Gore sheriff in 2009. Gore received 57 percent of the vote in a three-way race in June 2010 and was elected the county’s top lawman. He oversees the department’s 4,000 employees and an annual budget of over $579 million.

Accompanying the conversation will be a delightful breakfast repast provided by Channel 10’s amazing caterer Charles Weeks.

The cost is free to San Diego Press Club members, and a ridiculously low $5 for non-members. RSVP to Press Club executive director Terry Williams at sdpressclub@cox.net

  1. Ask him why he took the 5th Amendment, and refused to answer questions from Congress, when they looked into the FBI vs. Randy Weaver shoot-out in Idaho in the mid-1990s. Gore was the FBI Agent-in-Charge in Seattle at the time and traveled to Ruby Ridge. When Weaver’s wife was shot and killed (in a terrible human error), Gore stonewalled questions from Republicans and Democrats in Congress. Thanks to Janet Reno, he got away with that.
