From the Ray Ellis campaign…
You’ve probably heard Councilwoman Sherri Lightner’s husband has entered the District 1 race, as well as a staffer from her office. Here is some related info you may not have heard yet:
Bruce Lightner copied and pasted Ray Ellis’ website to create his site. Below are screen shots of Ray’s site and Bruce’s site, along with the response Ray’s website vendor sent me after talking to her coder, who compared the backend of both websites Friday.
A legitimate candidate for office does not copy a website developed and paid for by his opponent.
It is also worth noting that we heard the UCSD College Democrats recruited the staffer from Lightner’s office to run because they were disappointed with Barbara Bry’s performance at a candidate forum with Ray Monday evening at UCSD.
Please let me know if you have any questions, and please feel free to share this email.

Does a legitimate PR guy release a statement about a rumor you heard about some college kids?

When the person is from Lightner’s office and the other one is from her home, it does make the world interesting.
When web design becomes that big of a deal to any candidate, you can smell the desperation.
Hi Tony,
As an advisor to UCSD College Democrats I’d like to inform your readers that your comments about us are patently false.
1. Our club unanimously and unwaveringly endorsed Barbara Bry. Her experience as an innovator and history with the UCSD student body make her our ideal candidate. Contrary to your claims, she had a great performance at the candidate forum on our campus and every week we’re getting more and more students fired up about her campaign.
2. Point of historical information: Our club supported Kyle Heiskala for student body president a couple of years ago. He lost. This election is way more serious than some campus election. I don’t know about you, but I recruit and back winners.
I’m going to return to finishing some homework. How about you stop wasting my time by spreading untrue rumors about my club?

Hi Tony, I heard Johnny has a crush on Suzanne and wants to ask her to the big dance, but he thinks Billy is going to ask her, but Billy is with Sarah!
OMG!
Quick, issue a press release!
Tony is just concerned that with Mr. Lightner in the race, his candidate, Mr. Ellis will now have to win in the General Election. We all know that it is not an easy thing for a Republican to win a contested election when a large majority of the public actually votes.
Why would the UCSD College Democratic Club ‘recruit’ a Republican?
Huh? Bruce Lightner is a Republican. This is nonsense.
You should get your rumors straight before you publish them.

The part Tony wrote about the College Dems is most certainly a rumor. But, Ken, we’ve read it four times and can’t find one reference to the club recruiting Bruce Lightner. He is not a staffer in his wife’s office.
But, the secondary rumor part of the story aside, why is everyone ignoring the alleged plagiarism part?
Thor’s Assistant,
My email is kkaplan80@gmail.com. If you care to contact me, I’ll explain.

Here is the SDUT article referring to both Bruce Lightner and the staffer in Sherri Lightner’s office…

Whether the staffer was recruited or not, is not now our point. But, no one here wrote that the College Dems recruited Bruce Lightner.

“why is everyone ignoring the alleged plagiarism part?”
It doesn’t matter. Seriously. Ray’s campaign staff should focus on GOTV for June

Brian:
That, they should. The other thing on the College Dems is really a “protest too much” moment, thus our question.
Indeed, a lot of the folks on this string are ignoring the plagiarism and instead playing shoot-the-messenger. That happens a lot in campaigns and is rarely effective. No big deal.
What Bruce did says a lot and you could read it as him hastily deciding to run after Lightner’s staffer was recruited last week following the District 1 debate at UCSD.
It’s a small point in a series of points about Bruce in an email to supporters. Our source is close to the staffer and the councilwoman and says the information the source passed onto us is accurate.
Have a good week, folks!
His last name should help him quite a bit in the June election. I think Ray’s team should get the word out that HE is the endorsed Republican in the race so that the “Lightner La Jolla Republicans” aren’t fooled
