Coastal City Councilman Cites DeMaio’s Commitment to Reforming Washington

San Diego – The backing of longtime coastal San Diego City Councilman Kevin Faulconer is the latest in a tidal wave of momentum for Carl DeMaio’s bid for the 52nd district. Faulconer has served on the City Council with both Peters and DeMaio.

Faulconer has represented San Diego’s beaches and bay communities on the City Council since January of 2006 – all 150,000 residents that Faulconer represents are in the 52nd Congressional District. Faulconer has been a long time advocate for San Diego’s beaches, bays and environment, and has worked with DeMaio on a variety of reforms including Proposition B, Comprehensive Pension Reform, and the No on D campaign of 2010 where the two worked together to successfully defeat the billion dollar sales tax increase.

“Having worked with Carl on a number of key San Diego reforms, I have no doubt that he is the best candidate to truly change the way Washington D.C. does business,” said Faulconer. “Carl’s commitment to reforming government and his tireless work ethic demonstrate that he is right person to effect real change in Washington and deliver real results for our region.”

DeMaio’s candidacy has already attracted substantial national attention including from independent non-partisan analysts from Cook Political Report and Sabato’s Crystal Ball. Both have downgraded Peters’ reelection prospects from “Lean Democrat” and “Likely Democrat” respectively, to “Toss-up.” National observers have pointed to DeMaio’s success in getting reforms done in San Diego on a bipartisan basis and acknowledging the role DeMaio can play as a “New Generation Republican” who focuses on pocket-book, economic and quality of life issues in a more positive and inclusive way.

Just two weeks ago a memo from NRCC Chairman Greg Waldon listed DeMaio as a top 5 pick-up opportunity, in part due to early polling showing DeMaio with a 10 point lead over Peters – the best polling numbers in the country for any challenger. The poll also showed DeMaio with a significant favorability advantage over Peters.

DeMaio announced for Congress late May and has already been endorsed by the New Majority, one of California’s largest Republican Political Action Committees, and the Lincoln Club, one of the most active political groups for local issues. DeMaio carried the 52nd District with 58% of the vote during the mayoral race in 2012. To learn more about Carl DeMaio and his campaign for City Council, visit www.CarlDeMaio.com
