Kelly and Brent King, parents of Chelsea King, today announced they have endorsed Nathan Fletcher for Mayor, citing his work on Chelsea’s Law and ability to build coalitions to achieve important legislative reform.

“We love San Diego and are proud to endorse our friend Nathan Fletcher for Mayor,” said Brent King. “We worked side-by-side with Nathan to pass Chelsea’s Law. He was tireless and passionate about achieving historic protections for our children.”

Last year, Nathan authored Chelsea’s Law, which created a true one-strike penalty for violent sexual predators that target children.  In addition, the legislation requires lifetime GPS monitoring of sex offenders, creates safe-zones around parks, and implemented comprehensive parole reform to better monitor those individuals who pose the greatest risks to our children. The bill achieved historic protections and is considered landmark public safety legislation. Nathan and the King family worked with District Attorneys, crime victims’ advocates, local parents, prosecutors and others to ensure the bill received broad-based, bi-partisan support.

“Knowing there are leaders like Nathan who are willing to work hard to ensure other families won’t have to endure what we have is hopeful,” said Kelly King.  “We believe that as San Diego’s next Mayor, Nathan will do what he did with Chelsea’s Law and bring everyone together to make the impossible possible.  It’s our privilege to endorse Nathan.”

“There are few people I have more respect for than Kelly and Brent,” said Nathan Fletcher. “They have unbelievable courage, strength, passion, and class. We have become very close over the last two years and it means a great deal to me to have their endorsement. I’m humbled and honored.”
