Jobs tax increase defeated in 2011 coming back to City Council
Next Monday (November 4th) the City Council will be hearing a proposal to increase the Jobs Tax by as much as 900%!
In July 2011 a proposal was brought forward to the San Diego City Council to increase the so called “linkage fee” from its current rate. The linkage fee is a fee charged to new commercial and industrial construction, i.e. job creators, on a per square foot basis.
At that time SDCTA joined the JOBS Coalition which consists of more than 25 organizations to raise awareness of the proposal’s impact on job creators in the city, and oppose the “jobs tax.” The proposal in 2011 was to DOUBLE the fee, and was defeated on a 4-4 vote. But the jobs tax is back again.
One of the key reasons why the 2011 proposal was defeated was because of your emails, phone calls and testimony before the City Council in opposition. Please call or email your councilmember today to say you oppose passing the JOBS TAX! Click here for a draft email you can send expressing your opposition.

Today the JOBS Coalition represents more than 50 companies and organizations dedicated to defeating this proposal.
This action may be taken without regard for the concerns voiced by taxpayers and business owners that this would further hurt job creation and the economy in San Diego.
