Former Del Mar Mayor Crystal Crawford quietly filed paperwork in the last 48 hours to seek the “open” 74th State Assembly seat in 2012…when the GOP’s Martin Garrick will be term-limited.

Rostra’s ‘North Pole’ last week reported rumbles Crawford might try the race, but filing of a Candidate Intention Statement (Form 501) by Crawford on Tuesday makes it official. SD Rostra’s Hydrilla Guerillas obtained the document today.

Crawford ran a representative, though losing race against Martin Garrick last month, falling by a score of 81,661 votes (55%) to 56,033 (38%), in a Republican-leaning district.

Ms. Crawford can hope the Citizens Commission re-drawing all State legislative lines for 2012, will produce a more Democratic-friendly 74th. That could happen if the district is moved south and east. She left
the Del Mar city council in November, to make the first Assembly bid.

Stay tuned for more previews of 2012 campaign developments here on SD Rostra, where we are Live, Local and Late Breaking.
