Once a month I will be highlighting my version of Throwback Thursday: California’s policies of the past, be it for better or worse.
This week, let’s take a look at Governor Brown’s failed realignment plan, which shifted thousands of lower level criminals from state prison to county jails. With the burden on local governments and additional pressure on the courts, has this really saved the state any money?
Crime rates in our neighborhoods have continued to rise – 7% in San Diego County alone. This is just unacceptable. While Democrats continue to release prisoners into our neighborhoods, Republicans are fighting for reforms such as sending prisoners to out-of-state facilities, outsourcing prisoners to private facilities, or building new prisons. The unfortunate reality is that crime rates will continue to rise unless the leadership in Sacramento changes its priorities. Californians must realize the Democrats are more worried about prison overcrowding than keeping felons out of our neighborhoods.
