Yesterday, I appeared on the Roger Hedgecock Show to talk more about our efforts to save the Mt. Soledad Cross – and about endorsing Rep. Duncan Hunter’s proposed legislation that could end the dispute over the Mt. Soledad Cross by transferring federal ownership the site to a private non-profit. Take a look at the segment!

Private ownership is not a good idea. Cunningham gave us a national memorial. Lets go back to court or let us just fall on our swords. Ill take my five plaques and go home.
It is interesting that only $1500 dollar plaques are available. Most of the counties veterans are already unable to celebrate their service due to the cost.
Jewish veterans want the cross down? Well take it down and remove the star of David plaques. The area on mount Soledad is immense. Give the visitors something to read and ponder. Build a new cross and give the Jews an area for equal billing.
Just watching Hunter and Carl creating a cause celeb is sickening. Hunter should put his resources into traditional veteran matters. God knows the Vets need it.
“Build a new cross and give the Jews an area for equal billing.”
Can they also get their own “separate but equal” water fountains?
As much as “Artic Wind” is sometimes out there — courts have ruled that displays representing a broader spectrum of faiths make that which are considered Christian displays acceptable. In other words, a cross next to a Star of David, for instance. I’m not saying that is the answer or even acceptable for Mt. Soledad. But, courts have ruled such “equal billing” as constitutional in recent years, whereas they clearly haven’t done so for separate water fountains, parts of a bus, or bathrooms. The comparison is a red herring.
Greg,
You are, of course, correct that a memorial with many plaques each featuring the religious symbol chosen by the purchaser of the plaque is perfectly legal. However, I don’t think that was what Artic Wind was referring to, nor do I think the plan was to put up a Star of David equal in size and scope to the Cross that is currently there.
It was and is Greg. We do have a few admins, who may post under their name if they like. Please keep in mind, just as we protect anonymous commenters, we protect all. Trying to guess identities isn’t fair to anyone, including the real person that may be falsely suggested or accused of being an anon commenter or another real person. Carry on.
T.A,
I wasn’t trying to guess anyone’s identity. I was just confused by Greg’s avatar.
Thanks. So are we. Some glitch, since admins can log in using the same info, or someone didn’t log out. We know who is to blame. It’s been fixed, it seems.
So according to the left…using a cross to memorialize the dead doesn’t transcend religion.
But something as trivial as marriage does.
OK.
