District 1: County Board of Supervisor Special Election Update

There are still votes to be counted, but Chula Vista Mayor John McCann has conceded. Imperial Beach Mayor Paloma Aguirre is the newest Supervisor on the County Board.

Important points:

  • Both McCann and Aguirre are very anti-gun. Neither candidate was better for us. In fact, if you look at their voting record and public statements, on almost every social, civil rights, and economic issue they were the same.
  • San Diego County Gun Owners did not endorse in this race and that was absolutely the right thing to do. Neither of these candidates are any good for us and NOT voting for either is the principled, ethical, and right thing to do.
  • Having no good option was not the fault of the Republican Party nor were they wrong for supporting McCann. They held their nose and supported their candidate and that is what they are designed to do. Yes, McCann is horrible and anti-gun, but it is not the duty nor the responsibility of the Republican Party to enforce adherence to issues. The Republican Party promotes the candidate the voters give them, and, in this case, they were given lyin’ John McCann.
  • SDCGO could have gotten McCann over the finish line. McCann trails by 4,600 votes. There will be a lot more votes counted, but that gap will likely stay around that amount. Make no mistake, had we backed McCann, SDCGO could have produced at least 4,600 votes for him. No question. McCann’s decisions and behavior prevented us from supporting him. I sincerely hope this ends his political career because John McCann is someone that should never be anywhere near power.
  • SDCGO is not yet in a position to win every election in every district, but we are absolutely able to keep an anti-gun Republican from getting elected in almost every district. We will continue to be a pro-Second Amendment candidate’s best friend and an anti-gun candidate’s worst enemy.

Thank you,

Michael A. Schwartz
Executive Director
SDCGO

  1. Reading this editorial reminds me of what Andrew Breitbart talked about at the San Diego Eagle Forum years ago. He summarized his talk with a warning to us all.
All of us in the Republican Party have different priorities. But we need to agree on the big picture- restoring America. And if you are in the trenches with other republicans and you can’t agree with a person because of 1-2 minor points, you are on the other side.
Doesn’t the county sheriff approve gun permits and not the board of supervisors? If so why should so many republicans leave the trenches (and their fellow Republicans) because of a minor issue in order to support the Democrat globalist Aguirre?
Just know that according to Andrew Breitbart you are on the other side, you are all RINOs now helping to ‘fundamentally transform’ our county under the control of the now globalist board of supervisors. Capeesh?

  2. McCann is pro choice. Anti gun. Pro raising taxes. Pro big government spending. Pro illegal immigration. Pro political violence. Pro covid restrictions. Anti Trump.

Are all those the minor issues of which you speak?

  3. Thank you ‘Eye Roll’. LOL. Ok, are there any differences in philosophies bet him and Aguirre? apparently not a one, right? EXCEPT, we have ‘We the People’ to keep McCann on the Republican path. Wonder how he feels about ICLEI.org, Wildlands Project, farmers signing over their rights to NGOs, etc.
As far as Aguirre, read that she is so progressive that not even the local Democrat Party would endorse her.
But you are saying – that it is a very good thing Aguirre was elected to the County Board of Supervisors?
