Great Election News from Oceanside!

Despite the statewide election disappointments (Brown AND Boxer?) there was some really good news in San Diego County. The Zapf, Roberts and Horn victories have been covered, but others have gotten less notice, particularly with the temporary derailment of Rostra.

Those of you who don’t follow North County races might have missed the reelection of Oceanside City Councilman Jerry Kern. Having survived a union-led recall effort less than a year ago, he cruised to victory on Tuesday. Kern is tough and smart and popular.

To add to the victory, City Treasurer Gary Felien was elected to the council, knocking off union supporter Chuck Lowery. Felien is a deeply principled, highly intelligent conservative with a wicked sense of humor.

Kern and Felien join with conservative stalwart Jack Feller to form a council majority, reversing a brief period of union control.

The taxpayers are safer tonight.
