Mayor Jerry Sanders backed  Scott Sherman this week, increasing GOP chances of recapturing the long-Republican 7th district which elected  Larry Stirling, Judy McCarty, Jim Ellis and Allen Hitch starting in 1961!  [Marti Emerald decamped for other pastures!]  Successful business owner (5th Avenue Insurance)  Scott Sherman grew up in District 7, lives near his childhood home, and played football for the mighty Patriots of Patrick Henry High.  And yes, sports fans, where you went to High School  still matters in San Diego!

……G.O.P.  TEAM IS NOW SET FOR  ‘COUNCIL BOWL’ 2012

Mayor Sanders’ endorsement  completes the GOP unity Dream Team of Scott Sherman (7th),  Mark Kersey (5th dist.) and Ray Ellis (1st district) which may regain a 5-seat San Diego City Council majority (when added to Lorie Zapf and Kevin Faulconer).  That Republican coalition did not just happen … leaders like Tony Krvaric, TJ Zane, and Jerry Sanders pieced it together over time with patience and persistence.  They  made it look easy, but it isn’t.  Well done to all!

…..JERRY SANDERS TALKS ABOUT SCOTT SHERMAN

“Scott Sherman is committed to restoring neighborhood services, which have suffered due to the economic downturn and resulting budget deficit,” said Mayor Sanders. “More importantly, Scott understands that restoring neighborhood services and our infrastructure backlog takes supporting and aggressively implementing real fiscal reforms like Comprehensive Pension Reform and managed competition. Scott’s commitment to real reform is why he is my choice for the 7th district councilmember.”

….WHERE IS DISTRICT 7?   … AND HOW DOES IT VOTE ?

As redrawn, District 7 includes the fine neighborhoods of Allied Gardens, Del Cerro, San Carlos, Navajo, Grantville, Tierrasanta, Mission Village, Serra Mesa, Mission Valley and Linda Vista.

In Your correspondent’s opinion, past and consistent  voting history makes the new  7th Council district one with a clear  Republican lean.  It’s not a slam-dunk, but Scott Sherman has history on his side.

Scott Sherman and his wife, Norma live in the Allied Gardens area near the house where he grew up. He is the President and Principal of 5th Avenue Insurance, an insurance services company located in Mission Valley.

  1. Scott Sherman is the scheduled speaker at the January meeting of the Grantville Action Group (www.GrantvilleActionGroup.com). If Rostra readers would like to meet Scott and see where he stands on the issues, this is a perfect opportunity. Of course, the Grantville Action Group’s primary interests are redevelopment reform and property rights, and we will ask Scott about these things. But, I think we would also like to know how Scott’s business acumen will translate into alleviating the City’s billion-dollar deficits in employee pensions, retiree healthcare and deferred maintenance.
What: January meeting of the Grantville Action Group
Who: Scheduled speaker—District 7 City Council candidate Scott Sherman
    When: Thursday, January 5th, 2012 @ 6:30 PM
Where: The Grantville VFW, 4370 Twain Avenue, Grantville

  2. Thank you, Dr. Peterson. I’ve added Grantville to the
roster of District 7 communities in the story above.
    Sorry for the oversight.
