George Soros

While The San Diego Union-Tribune endorsed Summer Stephan for San Diego County District Attorney yesterday, billionaire George Soros  late last week dumped $1.5 million into the PAC supporting Stephan’s opponent, Geneviéve Jones-Wright. You can see the campaign disclosure form here. It lists the $1.5 million contribution from Soros to the PAC, as well as over $400,000 in expenditures in support of Jones-Wright.

The Deputy District Attorneys Association calls Soros “an out-of-state billionaire…attempting to buy the San Diego County District Attorney’s office…to implement an agenda that would put our public safety at risk.”

In December 2016, The Daily Signal published an article on his similar efforts, “The ‘Staggering’ Campaign of Liberal Billionaire George Soros to Swing Local Prosecutor Elections.

A website, “Threat to San Diego,” details the Soros-backed efforts in support of Jones-Wright and also provides further details on $15 million spent by Soros in recent years “to elect anti-law enforcement prosecutors throughout the United States.”

NOTE: This article has been updated to note that the the campaign disclosure form linked above “lists the $1.5 million contribution from Soros to the PAC, as well as over $400,000 in PAC expenditures in support of Jones-Wright.”

  1. What a sad joke. The guy made his billions manipulating stocks and currencies as evidenced by his 2002 conviction for insider trading by a French court and fined $2.25 million for a 1988 deal with French bank Société Générale. Previously in 1977 he settled a million dollar lawsuit for the same type of thing. Worse than that is his admission on 60 Minutes in 1998, of being a Nazi collaborator with “no regrets.” He helped the Nazis as a teenager to help identify his fellow Jews’ property, while posing as a Christian. In the death camps they would label someone like him as a Kapo. See the interview here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8Id0-Lsyr0.

  2. The Koch brothers, the Mercers, Alderson, etc. BTW Prescott Bush did a great job in financing the Hitler war machine.

  3. Greg,

The $1.5 million figure is misleading at best, dishonest of you at worst.

Soros gave $1.5 million to The California Justice and Safety PAC but this PAC does more than just support Jones-Wright. Their contribution to Jones-Wright’s campaign was approximately $400K. This is still a substantial amount, but nowhere’s near $1.5 million and not all that much more than the $227,000 that the Deputy D.A’s Union gave to Summer Stephan.

  4. HQ:

This was not intentional. The campaign form lists only one candidate, Jones-Wright, on a filing showing $400,000 in expenditures and $1.5 million in contributions. Most would read the possible limitations of the form for what it shows. Be that as it may, the article has been updated.

    Thanks for your comment.

  5. T.A,

    I appreciate that too.

This close to Election Day, the law requires reporting within 24 hours of any contributions. This is probably the reason that particular filing only listed one candidate.
