“Anyone can be heroic from time to time, but a gentleman is something you have to be all the time.”
-Luigi Pirandello

Sure enough, being a gentleman entails living like one. America beckons for more of them in this day and age. The question looms–are they out there and willing to proudly tout themselves more?  I am confident they are.

I traversed upon this blog and grew absolutely drawn to it! People have told me that chivalry is long-dead, and that holding such a belief is naive. Well, I can proudly say that my critics were wrong with this bit of encouragement. Ha!

The American Gentleman, a blog on tumblr, serves as a guide for our country’s gentlemen. Ranging from tips on how to be presentable, kind, articulate, and respectable towards women, AG serves as a tool to revitalize “the gentleman” with important life lessons. For too long, feminists have chided against chivalry and the greatness that comes with manhood. Time to change that, folks!

One can even send in suggestions here.

Number 43 is debatable, although everyone should proudly express their opinion.

Here are some of my favorite lessons:

Lesson No. 52: It is as important to be articulate as it is to be intelligent. Being well-spoken is as important as being well dressed. Intelligence can be gained, charm must be practiced and perfected.

Lesson No. 40: When you’re walking with her, stay on the side closest to the street.Traditionally you offer your left arm for an escort but the Gentleman keeps his lady free from the hazards of falling off the curb or traffic.

Lesson No. 38: They’ll only take you seriously if you take yourself seriously. Straighten your tie, button your top button, shake hands, make eye contact, and seal the deal.

Lesson No. 32: A Gentleman has a firm, confident handshake. You can tell a lot about a man by the way he shakes your hand. As my grandfather always said, “No Dead Fish!” Research even says a firm hand shake may lead to a longer life.

Lesson No. 11: Always open the door for her.It will open her eyes to see you breathe life in to chivalry. It’s not dead, you can bring it back.

Encourage gentlemen. We are in dire need of them in our society. Enjoy–spread the good word of The American Gentleman!
