  1. Where was the headline screaming “Faulconer goes negative” when the Lincoln Club was putting out their daily attacks on Fletcher?

HQ is correct. We’ve modified the headline to reflect what the UT tweet read, not what we said.

  3. T.A.,

In a previous post you responded that the intent of Rostra was “to discuss items that may not be in every other media outlet in town.” I responded that I thought the intent was to discuss ” items critical of Nathan Fletcher.” It appears I was correct about that as well.

We’ve also repeatedly said we were interested in posting any mail. Fletcher’s partisans have sent us none. So, if someone else shares his mail or the mail of the PACs supporting him, we will, in the context they did to give proper credit. We did so. The mail piece is not critical of Fletcher, but the opposite. If it’s the use of the UT’s wording to share what they had but we didn’t that is so upsetting, please grow up. This is a political blog. Have someone send us the mail directly.

  5. This is rich. Rostra gets criticized for posting the negative hits on Fletcher, but then when a negative hit on Fletcher’s opponents goes up, more criticism. Isn’t Nathan the one that called for no negatives?

  6. The most recent hit piece came from an independent expense funded predominantly by the owner of Qualcomm. This really shouldn’t come as a surprise since Qualcomm was the recipient of previous hits from Faulconer (Lincoln Club) and Alvarez (Labor Council). Anyone who thought that Qualcomm would just take the hits hasn’t been paying attention to their business model over the years.

  7. Nathan Fletcher is opportunist turncoat, and a jerk. Got it!

    A funny aside.

A good way to get liberals to see your side. Casually tell them :
“I just don’t like the government messing with my pay check. We have wives and girlfriends for that”

  8. Brian,

I think you can thank Ted Cruz and the House Republicans for that one. Rightly or wrongly, the Republican brand is, at least for now, linked with “Tea Party extremists.”

  9. If thinking that government should exercise fiscal sanity and put accountability into the process links one to “Tea Party Extremists”, then count me in.

The fact that 7 of the 10 wealthiest counties in this country surround DC should be proof enough of the inside dealing and waste within government.

Bureaucratic class, career politicians, revolving door, go along to get along, spending other peoples money in the disguise of social engineering and feel good, are the things that bring a republic down.

When asked, “What have we got”?, Benjamin Franklin responded, “A Republic if you can keep it”. Both sides have contributed to this mess and neither side looks like they will fix it.

I hear all MSNBC crowd talk of a democracy, they do not even know that we live in a republic. “And to the Republic, for which it stands, one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all”.

  10. Hypocrisy

Rightly or wrongly, the San Diego Democrat brand is, at least for now, linked with “Bob Filner.”

I think you can thank Bob Filner and the cast of Democrat elected officials and leaders who failed to take corrective action when they became aware there was a problem.

    Touche! 😉

  11. Norville,

The person on the receiving end of the zinger is supposed to say “touche.” No matter since there was no need for a “touche” in this instance.

Take a look at the mailers being sent by the candidates endorsed by the two major parties and tell me who is proud of his party’s brand and who is running away from his. David Alvarez proudly lists his Democratic Party endorsement and touts his Democratic Party bona fides like “working for everyone,” “support for working families” and “diversity.”

Kevin Faulconer’s most recent mailer touts his “Neighborhood Fairness Plan,” “works across party lines” and “Led the fight to preserve Mission Bay.” Under the latter headline, he even bragged about working with Donna Frye and environmentalists. Heck, he could be running as a Democrat.

Now here’s the kicker: Faulconer’s ad was actually a member to member communication sent by the Republican Party.

O.K. Norville, now it is your turn to say it…

  12. What kind of Tea Party extremist votes to ban grocery bags?

Perception and spin is fun, but a voting record is fact. Faulconer’s voting record fits perfectly with San Diego city voters. Either that message will get to them and he’ll be elected or the liars on the left will have their day.

Watching the events around the position of San Diego mayor over the last year right up to today makes me proud to live in the great city of Santee.

  13. I hope we see a story on the plastic bag vote. I will shop in other towns if the bags are banned. Oh, and what a surprise Fletcher goes negative.
