>SD Ethics Commission complaint

San Diego city council member Marti Emerald has been “invited”
to the Feb. 25th meeting of the San Diego City Ethics Commission.

The invite is from Alison Adema, the still-new General Counsel
for that body, and it alleges Emerald’s campaign committee
violated the San Diego Municipal Code’s elections statute. The
proposed punishment goes as high as $5,000 a count, on two
alleged violations of the rules.

You can read their full “Final Administrative Complaint” against
the Emerald campaign at this link to a City PDF file:

Emerald’s legal representative so far is Robert Ottilie, arguably
one of the best (if not THE best) election law attorneys in town.
Mr. Ottilie won the dramatic 2005 mayoral “long count” case for
Dick Murphy, with a masterful televised performance worthy of
Perry Mason himself!

So February 25 should be a series of classic showdowns, between
Bob Ottilie and Alison Adema, between the Commission members
and Marti Emerald, and between reporters elbowing for the best
seats in the front row !

Stay tuned for more updates on SD Rostra.

  1. Oh brother here is more unethical behavior from “the troubleshooter”. If the Reps don’t recall her they are idiots.

  2. Does anyone know the status of the Ethics Commission investigation of (Name removed by admin)?

I heard he was under investigation for some violations during the fall 2008 campaigns…

  3. Reuben: The reason the name has been removed in your question above is because “I heard” doesn’t cut it on this site, not when it comes to allegations that may be potentially libelous. Either a person is under investigation by the Ethics Commission or they are not. Please don’t use Rostra to either 1) do your research for you, or 2) engage in innuendo about a person without proof. If indeed you do have information to show that an investigation is taking place about anyone, then it is of course fair game. Thank you.
