The residents from Escondido, California packed the City Council chambers to show their support for Arizona’s SB 1070 immigration law. The southern Californian residents wanted to challenge Councilmember Olga Diaz’s attempt to chastise Arizona.
“Those who support Arizona outnumbered the opposition 10 to 1. It seemed that some of those in opposition had been ‘imported’ from outside Escondido to protest,” said Tisha Bennett of Escondido and founder of CERS. “Residents here agree with Arizona that the federal government has failed the American people.”
According to Bennett, American patriots outnumbered the pro-illegal immigrant activists about 125 – 20 and just as past council meetings with this type of agenda on the ballot, the event procured several members of the media.
Bennett spoke during the open comments portion and presented the City Council with a letter signed by more than 400 Escondido citizens praising the city and Escondido Police Department for their traffic safety and DUI checkpoints which have removed thousands of unlicensed drivers from Escondido roads in the past four years.

I have heard much more people discussing that the law is Unconstitutional under the Supremacy Clause. The Supremacy Clause forbids state and local laws that contradict federal laws in matters exactly where the federal government has authority to act.
Once again it only applies in situations exactly where the law contradicts the current law. Arizona’s law requires that State/Local authorities hand over suspect illegals to the proper federal authorities. Maybe you have forgetten (since we haven’t enforced these laws) but it’s still a crime to enter our country illegally.
But as long as we are talking about Constitutionality let’s talk about the Commerce Clause in the Constitution (Article I, Section 8). This clause prohibits states and localities from passing laws that burden interstate or foreign commerce by, among other things, creating “discriminations favorable or adverse to commerce with particular foreign nations.”
Boycotting Arizona is UNCONSTITUTIONAL so knock it off already. Also to the Arizona government, how about we step up and actually file suit against these cities?
Like the Arizona Law or hate it, even a numbskull knows that people voluntarily boycotting a state is not unconstitutional and that a local government passing a boycott may be emotional and outright stupid, but is not going to result in any lawsuit by Arizona. The people reacting to their elected officials that take a boycott position is an appropriate avenue.
All of this boycott Arizona stuff makes my blood boil. Yeah, let’s punish Arizona business and citizens because politicians are idiots.
