Emerald Rolls Out D7 “Advisory Board” – Or Does She?

A recent press release from liberal Democrat Councilwoman Marti Emerald stated that she had met with a District 7 “Citizens Advisory Council”, and that the Council supports a new downtown library and new City Hall – paid for by the taxpayer of course.

The interesting thing about the release is Marti doesn’t reveal who exactly is on her Advisory Council. That’s odd. Making a few calls to various citizens active in D7, not a soul had heard of this new spokes-group for their community, had never been consulted, and had no idea who could be on it.

Marti – how about a little open government. Let us know exactly who speaks for D7, if you would?

  1. I JUST SAW THIS POST.

NO ONE – I REPEAT NO ONE – THAT I KNOW OF KNOWS ABOUT THIS ‘ADVISORY GROUP’.

    WHEN DO THEY MEET?

    HOW WERE THEY PICKED?

IS THIS THE ‘VOICE FOR THE COMMUNITY’?

I WANT SOME ANSWERS FROM EMERALD OR I WILL PUT IN A PUBLIC RECORDS ACT!

THIS IS THE WORST KIND OF ‘CLOSED GOVERNMENT’

    TOM

  2. I didnt read this in the newspaper (shocking!) – but I’m going to email this to everyone I know. So Councilwoman Emerald thinks she can just pick a few people to ‘represent’ us in smoke filled rooms somewhere, giving her whatever answer she wants? No way. These types of meeting should be public, and we should have our say.

For the record, my say is I dont want to pay for a library no one uses, and there is no way I want to pay for a new palace for a city council that can’t balance a budget.

  3. So Red County shuts down and we have a new source for right wing venom against Marti Emerald.

Why don’t you guys just grow up?

There is no reason Emerald should have to reveal who she discusses community affairs with. If she were to open these discussions to the public I can just imagine you right wing zealots packing the house, again.

  4. Boy wonder what the ‘troubleshooter’ would have thought of secret meetings to determine city policy.

  5. oh this is rich… floating all over San Carlos today… what a halfwit. this woman simply thinks she is above the law no wonder the ethics commission is all over her…

  6. Emerald and her staff are well aware they blundered on this.

Frankly from what I hear her community group are her friends and campaign supporters. That’s second hand… but really, really good second hand.

Emerald just about split down the middle when she read this post Mr. Murphy… which many of us here enjoyed. She is impossible to work with. Her staff is crazy.

  7. Dear Mr. Murphy,
Obviously you don’t have enough to do other than look in other people’s windows. That’s what it appears to amount to your comments regarding Council member Emerald’s “community group”. Are you perhaps feeling left out? I wonder why.

Council member Marti Emerald does indeed have an active community council that meets quarterly to give her input on her district. These members are a cross section of our community representing different background, experience and expertise. Various issues concerning our community may be discussed, including safety, water conservation, etc.

So, what’s the big deal boys?

  8. Dear Gwen,

You sound so decent, so involved….

So who are they? You talk a good talk… NAME THEM?

So what is the big deal, girl? NAME THEM.

    Mary

  9. I don’t know who they are…just know about them. It’s what I’ve been told from a very good source. Sounds like a good idea to me. Every council member to my knowledge seeks input from their constituents. They each do it differently, as I understand.

So, again….what’s the big deal here….girl? Are you feeling left out because nobody is asking YOU for your input??? Now I wonder why.

  10. Give me a break, Gwen… there is a BIG difference between having local community groups (which every time Ive seen them are public), and having a secret community group then ISSUING A PRESS RELEASE SAYING THIS SECRET GROUP BACKS A MAJOR CITY EXPENDITURE. IF ITS NO BIG DEAL WHY HASNT SHE NAMED THEM — ITS BEEN A DAY ALREADY?

  11. Shaka:
As far as I know, this group is not secret.

Have you also checked into how the other council members get input from their constituents? Do any of them have “secret community groups”. Do or will they give you a list of their members? Why or why not?

Before you make a lot of noise, that might be some good research to keep you busy.
