SAN DIEGO — car2go N.A., LLC, a subsidiary of Daimler North America Corporation, and the City of San Diego will launch North America’s first all-electric carsharing program on Nov. 18, 2011.
Vehicle Deployment & Free Registration
The deployment of 300 car2go smart for two electric drive vehicles will begin Nov.18, and will be available for members to use on the same day. Member registration will open online at Nov. 2.
Registration is currently free of charge, and for a limited time, new members will receive 30 free minutes of driving time. San Diego residents can register at sandiego.car2go.com and use the promotional code PLUGIN.
As car2go members, San Diego residents will have access to the car2go smart for two electric vehicles 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The emissions-free vehicles can be accessed anytime, with or without a reservation, for as long as needed without having to commit to a specific time or location to return the vehicle. Members are billed by the minute and pay only for the time they use the vehicle. Parking, recharging, insurance and maintenance are included at no additional cost to members.
car2go San Diego Ride & Drive Event
On Nov. 18, car2go and the City of San Diego will host a press conference and a car2go San Diego Ride & Drive event, open to the public and free of charge. The event will be held adjacent to San Diego’s primary transportation hub: the historic Santa Fe Station, located at the corner of West Broadway and Pacific Highway.
The car2go San Diego Ride & Drive event will begin at 10 a.m. The public will be invited to drive the car2go smart for two electric drive vehicles, and there will be interactive information stations where attendees can learn about the car2go carsharing program, electric drive vehicles, how to charge an electric vehicle, and more.
During a 1 p.m. press conference, selected officials will explain the car2go operating area and parking details, and provide information on the electric vehicles and the City of San Diego’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
A second car2go San Diego Ride & Drive event will take place the following day, Nov. 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and again, will be open to the public and free of charge.
