SAN DIEGO — District Attorney and Mayoral candidate Bonnie Dumanis today issued the following statement in response to this morning’s event:

“In this race for mayor, no candidate has injected more partisanship than Nathan Fletcher. This is the latest scene in his contrived political soap opera after losing the Republican Party’s endorsement.

“The real issues facing the city are schools teetering on the edge of a state takeover, a local unemployment rate that is back on the rise, and a big tax hike from Sacramento in November.

“As District Attorney I make independent decisions every day based on the law and the right thing to do, not any political party. As mayor, I’ll continue to make the tough decisions based on what’s best for all San Diegans.

  1. What D.A. Dumanis is likely saying right now is: Damn why didn’t I think about that first. (switching to Independent)

  2. The D.A. is very classy, she makes independent decisions but she stays loyal to her principles. What a great Lady!

  3. This is a political stunt, that’s all. Bonnie’s experience dwarfs Fletcher’s by a country mile.

  4. To the “Justine Hernandez” who just tried to post:

Name calling and unsubstantiated allegations seem to be your specialty. They aren’t allowed here. Posting comments using multiple names is not allowed. No, not “everyone knows” the allegation you attempted to make. Have you not noticed how few of your comments have survived on Rostra? Some might say you are too dense to have noticed, although we wouldn’t say that, as that would violate our policies.

    Have a nice day.

  5. Who needs diversity when you have white millionaires and billionaires funding your campaign?

  6. Rachel, I read the story. Doesn’t really say anything about them of any substance. Can’t wait for them to make a decision or take a position.

  7. Dear Thor’s Assistant,
I could care less which of my comments make it onto Rostra’s comments sites. Since you Republican thugs like to be fascists and control your press and not allow for dissenting opinions to be available for others to peruse, that is your problem–not mine.

I would like to say that Thor’s Assistant may have plenty of muscles per that cartoon picture but I bet there’s not too much between the ears. But pardon me for being inappropriate here and a touch politically incorrect.

From Admin: We’ve been called worse than stupid. So be it. That’s not the issue. Justine misses the overall point, as usual for someone that continues to violate the rules of the road here, by using more than one handle (more than three, actually), and making unsubstantiated charges against those “she” doesn’t like. This site has conservatives, moderates, Republicans, Libertarians, and independents as bloggers, both Ron Paul supporters and Mitt Romney faithful, as well as others. Rostra has also had guest columns from Democrats; we’ve invited Bob Filner to do a Q&A, as we did the other three leading San Diego mayoral candidates (Mr. Filner’s campaign did not take us up on it, but the invitation still stands). Yes, Rostra is right-leaning, but the invitation is open to all to submit comments, even if politically incorrect. Justine seems to not understand the difference between passionate, provocative, controversial debate, while backing up one’s assertions, and that of simplistic name-calling while leveling unsubstantiated and possibly even libelous charges at others. We’ve said it before: It is much easier to simply call names than it is to muster a thoughtful and rational argument to back up your thoughts. As proved by her response above to the fact that we removed only her posts that violate the rules, while even telling her why, she has no intellectual ability other than to mindlessly respond with more of the same. Our last advice to her in response to her clearly “libertarian” belief that the owners of a private enterprise should not be able to set the rules for their endeavor as they see fit, which is ironically fascist: Pound sand.

  8. Justine,

I offer dissenting opinions and challenge the status quo all the time and they get published. The key is doing so in a polite manner befitting public discussion.

On the other hand, does her calling us thugs give us any street cred?

  9. Michael,

I think you are missing the point. The Move to the Middle is not a political party and it is not an ideology. Actually, it is the opposite of both of those things. It is a group of people with differing political beliefs who believe in lookiing beyond political affiliation for the next great idea or candidate. As the movement grows, it is likely that one member will disagree with another on who the best candidate is or whether a particular initiative is worth voting for. This disagreement, however, will not be based on the endorsement of a political party and won’t prevent there being agreement on other issues.

  10. This so called “movement” is nothing but a manufactured political stunt.

    It’s clearly a facade.

Let’s see how long the “movement” continues after “The Great Epiphany ™” arrives at its disastrous conclusion.
