Welcomes Decision by San Diego County Taxpayers’ Association
to Form Expert Review Panel to Provide Feedback
on Proposed City Budget and Pension Reforms

Councilmember Carl DeMaio announced today he will conduct a series of public forums across the city to brief San Diegans and listen to their feedback on the Roadmap to Recovery Plan he unveiled to balance the city’s budget and reform the pension system.

“Public input and participation is very important to advancing the reforms outlined in the Roadmap to Recovery Plan.  I look forward to not only answering the public’s questions but listening to their ideas on how we can improve our city government,” noted DeMaio.

DeMaio also welcomed the announcement by the San Diego County Taxpayers Association that the respected organization will be convening a special process to review the Roadmap to Recovery plan and other ideas for fixing the city’s financial problems.  The Mayor has already asked a task force with close ties to his office to review the plan as well.

“The more review and input from outside groups the better,” commented DeMaio.  “We look forward to working with all groups to answer questions, listen to their feedback, and work collaboratively with them to advance reform,” concluded DeMaio.

In the wake of the overwhelming defeat of Prop D DeMaio unveiled the Roadmap to Recovery as a comprehensive five-year financial recovery plan that balances the city’s budget and restructures long-term city finances. The plan – projected to save more than $1 billion over five years — is based on legal opinions provided by the City Attorney’s Office – and has been scored by an independent pension actuary.
