DeMaio Blasts Rep. Peters for “Symbolism Without Substance” on Jobs & Entrepreneurism

Peters Trying to Hide Record of Hurting Entrepreneurs and Killing Jobs

San Diego – He’s one of the biggest supporters of some of the worst policies that have created obstacles to San Diego’s entrepreneurs and small businesses, but Scott Peters today proposed creating a “national day” to honor entrepreneurs.

Carl DeMaio, who has built a reputation of getting tax and regulatory relief for San Diego’s small businesses, blasted Peters for the stunt as “the height of hypocrisy and a perfect example of what is wrong with Washington politicians.”

“After supporting higher taxes and bad regulations to make it harder for entrepreneurs and small businesses to even survive, Congressman Scott Peters somehow thinks publishing a symbolic resolution wishing them ‘good luck’ will somehow fix the damage his flawed policies are causing,” DeMaio said.

Just a Few Examples of Scott Peters Anti-Entrepreneur Policies

Higher Taxes and Fees: Scott Peters supported the largest tax increase in the history of San Diego – 2010’s massive Prop D Sales Tax Hike. Economists have noted sales taxes hit small businesses the hardest. While on the City Council and Port, Peters consistently supported fee hikes on San Diego’s small businesses.

ObamaCare Costs: Peters has steadfastly continued his support for the costly ObamaCare regulations (particularly the individual mandate) that are increasing health care costs and canceling insurance for small businesses and entrepreneurs.

Anti-Small Business Sweetheart Deals: By supporting Project Labor Agreements on the Council, at the Port, and now in Congress, Scott Peters is shutting San Diego small business out of fair competition on projects – and favoring the big businesses that are unionized.

Bad Regulations: On August 2, Scott Peters voted against the “REINS” Act to provide reform of bad regulations and supported countless regulatory burdens on the City Council and at the Port.

“Scott Peters needs to be honest and admit symbolic resolutions do not create jobs – reversing the flawed regulations Scott Peters has helped impose on entrepreneurs and small businesses would,” DeMaio said. “San Diegans deserve real reform, not symbolic resolutions,” DeMaio concluded.
