DeMaio Asks San Diegans to “Sign On For Change

100,000 Signatures Needed to Bring Reform to San Diego City Government

Councilmember Carl DeMaio is asking for help to qualify an important ballot measure for the November 2010 election.

Known as the “Competition and Transparency in City Contracting Initiative,” the measure would save taxpayers millions annually by requiring competitive bidding on all city services.  The ballot measure is a key element of a comprehensive fiscal reform package for achieving efficiencies in city operations and holding city managers accountable for results.

“San Diegans want real change in city government. By signing the petition for this ballot measure, San Diegans can be part of making that change happen.  If we are to restore the city’s financial health, we must turn to the voters to impose these common-sense fiscal reforms on city government from the outside,” commented DeMaio.

DeMaio needs to collect nearly 100,000 signatures before May 17, 2010 to qualify this reform.

DeMaio’s campaign is asking San Diego residents to help by taking a few of the signature sheets and circulating them around their office and in their neighborhood.  His campaign volunteers are hand-delivering the signature sheets in the next week!

With one click of a button, San Diegans can help the campaign collect 100 signatures.

The campaign is supplementing its grassroots efforts by using paid signature gatherers on the street and at local stores.  For every $250 donated, roughly 100 signatures can be collected.  Donations can be made online at: www.ReformSanDiego.com

“There has never been a more critical time than now in the effort to fix the city’s financial problems.  With this ballot measure, we can get San Diego city government working again for taxpayers,” concluded DeMaio.
