(San Diego, CA) – Taxpayer advocate Chris Cate announced that his campaign for Council District 6 raised over $50,000 from more than 150 individuals in his first quarter of fundraising – a period of less than one month. San Diego City campaign finance rules prohibited city candidates from fundraising before June 3rd.
“I am humbled by the incredible support I’ve received in the first month of the campaign, remarked Cate. “It is incredibly encouraging to know that so many supporters believe so strongly in my commitment to deliver real lasting results for taxpayers so that we can truly re-invest in our communities.”
Cate’s success during the first month of his council campaign was not limited to fundraising. He picked up a downpour of individual and organizational support in June. Councilmembers Kevin Faulconer, Mark Kersey and Scott Sherman endorsed Cate along with leading business groups like the Associated Builders and Contractors and the Lincoln Club of San Diego County. Cate has also received the endorsement of the Republican Party of San Diego County.
As Vice President of the San Diego County Taxpayers Association, Cate has been an integral part of the fiscal reforms that all three Councilmembers have supported including opposing Prop D’s massive tax increase in 2010, and Propositions A and B in 2012. Cate was previously San Diego’s Audit Committee Consultant – where he helped oversee cost savings measures that have saved taxpayers millions.
Cate is a member of numerous community organizations and has been highly active in the Asian Pacific Islander community. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Asian Business Association (ABA) and has also been a member of various School Bond Oversight Committees, overseeing hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer funded school construction projects. Chris earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of San Diego. During his time at USD, Chris and a high school friend started a successful small business in Kearny Mesa that specializes in auto glass replacement and windshield repair. Cate is running to represent the 6th Council District which includes the communities of Clairemont, Kearny Mesa, Miramar, Mira Mesa, and Rancho Peñasquitos.
